For this task you are to run a training session to the team leaders on how to prepare for and

induct the new staff members. This assessment must be undertaken in line with the supplied
Employee Recruitment & Selection Manual

This will require you to prepare for and run a training session making sure you

 Refer to the induction checklist developed in Assessment 1


 Develop a detailed induction book/handout to be provided to new employees that
cover each item outlined in your induction checklist
 Develop a session running sheet (or session plan) that outlines what you will cover in
the information session
 Run your session (as outlined below) and discuss your induction process in detail

It is important that you are prepared for this session, ensuring you.

 prepare for the session to ensure everything is covered


 develop and provide relevant documentation/supporting materials to your team

Your assessor will observe you running the meeting

Task requirements: Are you able to:

Prepare a staff induction booklet / handout that include / explain

 Introduction
 Company details, structure, directions, goals, visions, focus, contacts, etc.
 Information on all relevant policies including company and legal obligations
 Position specific information including
o Benefits
o Awards
o Pay rates applicable to position
o Superannuation
o Conditions of employment
 Acknowledgement of receipt

Prepare induction running sheet checklist that includes

 Actions required prior to commencement


 Actions required on the first day (welcome, introductions, orientations, what to be
discussed, WHS, etc.)
 What forms must be completed/documents to be retained (TFN Declaration Form,
Superannuation, etc.)

BD Corp, a 120-room hotel located in the CBD. BD Corp has its own restaurant located on
the second floor which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is a-la-carte
with a seating capacity of 85. Whilst it is available for the public as well as guests, typically
the clientele are as follows:

Breakfast (buffet) – 57 hotel guests/9 public guests operating on average at 65 capacity.

Lunch (a-la-carte) – 25 hotel guests/ 16 public guests operating on average at 41 capacity.

Dinner (a-la-carte) – 26 hotel guests/ 31 public guests operating on average at 57 capacity.

BD Corp also runs a coffee cart at local charity events, community centres and other not-for-
profit establishments. All equipment, ingredients and consumables are provided by BD Corp
for no charge Staffing consists of 1 x BD Corp supervisor and volunteer baristas who work on
a roster system (normally to 1 day per week)

You are to prepare staff induction booklet /handouts that explain

1/ The hotel information including:

 Structure, Culture, Goals, Objectives, Vision, Responsibilities, Current focus /


initiatives, Contacts / who to report to (please make all this information the same
with any other hotels’ Structure, Culture, Goals, Objectives, Vision, and
Responsibilities in Australia)

2/ According to Australian legislation, you are to develop Policy and Procedures for BD
Corp (the policy should cover Purpose, Scope, Definition, Responsibilities, and Terms)
including:

 Discrimination,
 Employment conditions (including pay dates (every Thursday), timesheets, leave etc.)
 Use of company equipment
 Dress standards

3/ Based on the Australia Fair Work Ombudsman, please provide position-specific


information including:

 Pay rates applicable for Front of House staff, and Barista


 Superannuation Based on the Australia Fair Work Ombudsman
 meal breaks Based on the Australia Fair Work Ombudsman
 uniforms (using the common hotel’s uniforms regulation).

Prepare induction running sheet checklist that includes:

Prior to commencement

 Advise employee of first day details (where to go, what time, what to bring. etc)
 Organise access to building, IT, uniform, etc
 Obtain returned, sign copy of employment contract/letter of engagement
 Ensure that time is available for tour, uniform fitting, filling of forms etc.

Run the session - Discuss induction process explaining

Pre-arrival-what should be prepared / discussed
