A SPEECH DELIVERED BY MS.
ELIZABETH DAVIS ON THE
THEME, “EDUCATION AS A TRASFORMATIONAL TOOL; A
SHARED RESPONSIBILITY” ON THE OCCASION OF A SPEECH AND
PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY OF JUASO MODEL JHS, HELD ON
WEDNESDAY, 23RD AUGUST, 2023.
Mr. Chairman, Municipal Chief Executive, Chief and Elders, COHBS
Executives, School Management Committee, Parents Association (PA),
Assemblymen, Unit Committee Members, Invited Guests, Fellow Teachers,
Students, Ladies and Gentlemen, All protocols observed.
I am very pleased to deliver a speech, themed, ' Education as a
transformational tool; a shared responsibility’. The developmental efforts of
any nation are inadequate, once there is no requisite provision of standard
education for its people. For any nation to be transformed, the education of its
citizens becomes a necessity because of the transformation power which
education processes. Education emphasizes the holistic development of
individuals encompassing their intellectual, emotional, societal, and ethical
dimensions.
Mr. Chairman, the government has taken the lead of rolling out a lot of
educational intervention programs in our schools to transform the educational
space of learners. The standard based curriculum places learners at the centre of
learning, elicits the level of creativity and innovative skills of the learner. Other
interventions are Transition to English lessons, Ghanaian Language of
instruction, Differentiated Learning, Radio Learning just to mention a few.
These pedagogies used by facilitators are yielding positive results on teaching
and learning. I promise, a few years to come not less than 95% of our pupils
will be able to read and write at their various grades.
The transformation of education begins with teachers attending series of
workshops which have been organized for our teachers by the Ghana Education
Service and refresher training workshops which equip teachers with the
requisite pedagogy to address the learning challenges of our students.
Mr. Chairman, the role of parents cannot be left out as they are to assist their
little ones by revising with them what they learn at school, guiding them to do
their home assignments and project works, helping them maintain a healthy
balance of studies and play, rewarding their progress and providing other
educational needs of their wards.
I will appeal to the invited guests, Chiefs and elders, School Management
Committee (SMC), Parents Association (PA) to pull resources to renovate the
school building to promote the culture of maintenance for generations to use. I
will further extend my warm petition to other stakeholders and philanthropists
to provide scholastic materials and support edutainment programs which
include: quiz, reading and essay competition within the Municipality to enhance
the academic standards of students.
Mr. Chairman, Municipal Chief Executive, Chief and Elders, School
Management Committee (SMC), Parents Association (PA), Assemblymen,
Invited Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to end here and create the
awareness that transformational education is not the sole responsibility of the
government but rather, it is a shared responsibility of the general public. Hence,
the need for all hands-on deck approach for a befitting transformation in
education within the Municipality.
Thank you.
