BACKGROUND
Due to the advancement in technology there is now use of many devices or gadgets that may
contain heavy metals. Many people are not aware of the environmental hazards associated
poor proper disposal of these gadgets. It has been discovered that heavy metal pollution
contributes to decrease in crop yields and may increase diseases in animals and humans.
Heavy metals from illegal dump sites in our local communities have caused to be a health
hazard.
CALA
The CALA has two parts A and B which you are supposed to complete
PART A
 Research on problems associated with heavy metals in the environment e.g. copper,
iron, lead, chromium and cobalt
 Research on methods of safe waste disposal of heavy metals.
 In your report include interviews, record note, use ICT tools, take pictures and make
recordings of your findings on ways of safe waste disposal.

PART B
Using the information in part A
Design a poster or illustration on the methods of waste disposal used in your community.
Write notes or explain your poster or illustrations

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

To assess your presentation the teacher will consider your research materials, explanations
about your illustration or poster that you have designed
An Achievement Standard specific to this CALA will be provided so that you are aware of
the assessment criteria.
