another balloon with the vapors of boiling water. She released the two balloons
and observed that the balloon with the hot vapors rose higher than the other
balloon. What did she learn from this experiment?

a. b.

c. d.

II. Answer the following questions.

17. Why do fish have streamlined bodies? Where and why

is this shape used?
Fish have a streamlined body to reduce frictional force
produced in water while they swim forward. This
streamlined body helps them to move faster.

18. Give a few ways to reduce frictional force.

 Make the surface a little smoother.
 Lubrication is another way to make the surface smoother.
 Make the object more streamlined.
 Reduce the contact between the two surfaces, so that less friction occurs.
19. Compare and contrast between Frictional and gravitational force.

Similarity – They both change the motion of an object.

20. A laborer has to push a heavy trunk. What simple machines will be used to
reduce his effort in pushing it and why?
The laborer will use a wheel and axle to move the heavy trunk as it helps to
reduce the effort of moving the trunk.
21. Classify the following as a lever, a pulley and an inclined plane:
A wedge, a needle, a staircase, a slide, the wheel of a flagpole, nutcrackers,
scissors, an opener, an axe, a crane, a knife.
Lever Pulley Inclined plane

Nutcrackers The wheel of flagpoles A Staircase

Scissors A crane A Slide
Opener
A knife
22. Identify and name the simple machines used in a bicycle.

Simple machines in the bicycle are- Wheel and Axle

Lever
Pulley

23. Which 2 simple machines are used in scissors? Draw a diagram of scissors and
label the parts of lever.
The blades of the scissors are a pair of wedges in a cross shape which pivot
around a fulcrum. The attached handles are levers.

24. Nina was given an assignment to make a balanced food plate. The outline of
the plate was shared with him. Help him place the nutrients accordingly.
25. Balanced diet is different for different person. Justify.
A balanced diet will not be the same for everyone. We're all different and often
individuals will require different amounts and types of nutrients. What you
need will depend on age, gender, lifestyle, health and the rate at which your
body works.
26. List the types of nutrients required for a healthy body. Explain the role of each
nutrient in our body with their sources.
Nutrients Uses Sources
Carbohydrates They are energy giving Rice, Potatoes, White
nutrients bread, Pasta
Protein They help in building the Fish, Egg, Nuts, Pulses
body and repair the body
cells
Fats They store the energy Oil, Ghee
and provide warmth to
the body
Vitamins and Minerals Help in building Fruits and Vegetables
immunity and fight
against diseases
27. Define matter. Give 2 characteristics of each state of matter along with
examples.
Ans- Matter is everything that occupies space and has mass.
Solids –have definite volume and shape. In a solid, the particles are very close to
each other. Example- table, chair, ice
Liquids – have definite volume but able to change shape by flowing. In a liquid,
the particles are loosely packed to each other. Example- Water, Juice.
Gases – have no definite volume or shape. In gas, the particles are very far from
each other. Example- Air, Smoke.

28. Draw the 3 states of matter solids, liquids and gas according to their molecular
arrangement.

29. Label the interconversion of states of matter as A, B, C, D, E and F.

Ans- A- Melting
B- Evaporation
C- Condensation
D- Sublimation
E- Deposition
F- Freezing
30. Label the gases in the pie chart given for the
composition of air given above with percentages and
state one use of it.
Nitrogen makes up 78 % of air, which is mixed with
oxygen (21%), water vapors (variable), argon (0.9 %),
carbon dioxide (0.04%), and trace gases.
Uses- Nitrogen – It is used indirectly by the plants
Oxygen – Used in respiration by all the living things
Carbon dioxide- Used by plants to make food during photosynthesis
Other Gases- Argon, Helium, Hydrogen are gases that are non-reactive.

31. Draw and label to show water cycle.

32. Explain the process of photosynthesis with the help of neat, labelled diagram.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon
dioxide to create oxygen and energy in the form of food.

33. Define weather.

Ans- Weather is the state of the atmosphere at any given time. It changes every
day. The weather can be sunny, cloudy, windy etc.
