Course Description and Objectives
This theatre course is designed for the beginning actor. The course will introduce the new
theatre student to the world of theatre.

- Careers in Theatre
Theatre I students will be required to attend at least 1 school theatre performances, and
complete a one page review for 10% of the final exam. Students may attend class performances
or evening performances. They may choose from many performances including the Fall Show,
Improv Showcase, Staged Readings, Spring Musical, UIL one act play performance, Theatre I
“Night of Scenes”, and student directed One-Act plays.

Bring your props - Always have your supplies/chromebook, paper and pencil

Attendance and Make up work
If a student is absent, they are responsible for contacting the teacher in order to make up for all
missed work. Late grades will be graded according to the school policy. A student may
re-attempt a major grade for half the points missed up to a maximum grade of 80. If the student
misses a performance grade, a note from a parent is required to allow a make-up assignment to
be given. If work is incomplete by the end of the grading period, the student will receive the
equivalent of a zero for that assignment.
Evaluation
- 40% Daily - 40% of each student’s grade will be based on a combination of points taken from
class participation including warm-ups, theatre games and exercises, ability to take directions,
willingness to try new things, discipline, attitude and effort.
- 60% Performance, and projects
- The semester average is determined as follows:
1st 9 weeks Average: 45%
2nd 9 weeks Average: 45%
Exams: 10%
Academic Integrity:
Many of our activities are done in pairs or teams. However, individual assignments, and tests
are to be completed solely and completely by the student whose name appears on the
assignment. Plagiarism, collusion and/or any other form of cheating will not be tolerated. The
Honor Code is in full effect in this class. See the school honor code for procedures.
Tardy Policy
Students are required to be on time. After 3 tardies, parents will be contacted. Theatre is a
performance based class so it is absolutely essential that students be present to participate.
