Understanding Oxygen Tension (PO2)

Oxygen tension, or partial pressure of oxygen (PO2), refers to the concentration of oxygen molecules dissolved in plasma, typically measured using a Clark electrode at 37°C. Normal arterial oxygen tension (PaO2) ranges from 75 to 100 mmHg, while venous oxygen tension (PvO2) is between 30 mmHg and 40 mmHg at sea level. Variations in oxygen tension can significantly affect metabolic processes and cellular functions.
