Application Guidelines for Japanese Classes(2024)

Hakodate City will be offering Japanese language classes for people wishing to study Japanese.
We have thirty-three classes a year and will soon be accepting applications for enrollment. You may
apply at any time.
○Who can apply?
The class is intended for non-native speakers who wish to learn Japanese.
It is open to anyone free of charge and there is no age limit for participation.
○Courses: There are three courses to choose from:
•Beginners’ course: For beginners or those who have learning experience of less than 50 hours.
The maximum number of students in this class is 15.
In this course you will: 1. Study basic conversational Japanese and easy Japanese listening.
2. Learn to read and write Hiragana and Katakana.
•Primary1 course: For those who have Japanese learning experience of more than 50 hours.
The maximum number of students in this class is 15.
In this class you will:1. Study intermediate conversational Japanese.
2. Study easy Kanji with the aim to read and write sentences.
•Primary2 course: For those who have conversational Japanese skills at normal speed.
The maximum number of students in this class is 10.
In this class you will : 1. Study advanced conversational Japanese.
2. Study Kanji with the aim to read and write sentences.
• Reading and Writing course: For those who already have conversational Japanese skills but
want to strengthen their reading and writing skills.
The maximum number of students in this class is 10.
In this class you will:1. Practice reading common books, newspapers, documents, etc.
2. Study correct grammar using Kanji.
○Time: Monday evening : Beginners’ course and Primary1 course 6:45pm-8:00pm
Thursday morning : Reading and Writing course 9:45am-11:00am
Beginners’ course and Primary1 course 11:15am-12:30pm
Thursday evening : Primary2 course 6:45pm-8:00pm
Sunday morning : Primary1 course 10:30am-11:45am

○Teachers: Members of Japanese Teaching Society (JTS) will give lessons.

unable to start the class after being accepted, please notify us as soon as possible.
