Re: End-of-life management of large-format prints when printed with HP Latex (third-
generation) HP 821, 831, 871, 881, and 3M 891 Inks used in HP Latex 300, 500, 1500,
and 3000 series printers, as well as HP Latex (fourth-generation HP 832, 872, 873, 882,
and 886 Inks used in HP Latex R1000, R2000, L700, and L800 series printers.
The intent of this letter is to assist HP customers with making responsible disposal
decisions for printed, unprinted, and scrap large-format materials.
The recyclability of substrates printed with HP Latex Inks depends on several factors. The
fundamental factor is to know if the unprinted substrate itself is recyclable. Please
contact the substrate manufacturer to learn more about this information.
HP LARGE FORMAT NON-PAPER (RESIN-BASED) SUBSTRATES
SCOPE: HP-branded films, banners, textiles, and canvases
1. TAKE-BACK
Products eligible for HP Large Format Media take-back program are listed at
https://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/media/index.html. Please note that HP Large
Format Media take-back program availability varies depending on location. Follow the
instructions on the website to send the prints and scraps to HP free of charge. Please
note that HP take-back program is limited to HP-branded materials only.
2. LOCAL RECYCLING AND DISPOSAL
For materials that are not eligible for take-back, please contact your local recycling
authority for area-specific recycling instructions.
HP large format materials—printed with HP Latex Inks, unprinted, and scrap —are non-
hazardous and safe for disposal. Contact your local waste management authority for
local area-specific instructions.
HP LARGE FORMAT PAPER-BASED SUBSTRATES
SCOPE: HP-branded paper-based materials
Most HP papers can be recycled through commonly available local waste management
and recycling programs like municipal paper recycling schemes that accept mixed paper
or liquid-packaging containers (e.g. milk cartons, etc.), where facilities exist.
HP large format papers— printed with HP Latex Inks, unprinted, and scrap —are non-
hazardous and safe for disposal. Contact your local waste management authority for
local area-specific instructions.
NON HP-BRANDED LARGE FORMAT NON-PAPER (RESIN-BASED) SUBSTRATES
SCOPE: Non HP-branded films, banners, textiles, and canvases
Flexible plastic substrates can be challenging to recycle in many jurisdictions. In some
countries, flexible films are accepted through used plastic bags collections systems.
Substrates coated with image-receptive and other coatings are not recyclable. Contact
your local waste management authority for local area-specific instructions.
Flexible PVC films and scrims are non-recyclable in most jurisdictions. Contact your local
waste management authority for local area-specific instructions.
NON HP-BRANDED LARGE FORMAT PAPER-BASED SUBSTRATES
SCOPE: Non HP-branded graphic paper, rigid paper-based substrates
Recyclable graphic paper substrates may be recycled after printing with HP Latex Inks as
specified by the paper manufacturer.
Recyclable rigid paper-based substrates can be recycled after printing with HP Latex Inks
as specified by the substrate manufacturer. Please note that corrugate materials are
expected to be recycled with rigid fiber-based packaging waste.
