NEW MEDIA LITERACY SCALE (NMLS)

Directions: The term “media” used in the following items, unless otherwise specified, refers to current
digital technology platforms including but not limited to web sites, online forums, social networks,
video sharing sites and virtual worlds in which anyone can share any digital content. Please indicate
how you feel about your knowledge and skills for each of the following statements.

1=Strongly disagree, 2=Disagree, 3=Neither agree nor disagree, 4=Agree, 5=Strongly agree

Functional Consumption (FC)


1. I know how to use searching tools to get information needed in the media.
2. I am good at catching up with the changes in the media.
3. It is easy for me to make use of various media environments to reach information.
4. I realize explicit and implicit media messages.
5. I notice media contents containing mobbing and violence.
6. I understand political, economical and social dimensions of media contents.

Critical Consumption (CC)
