For this study, a quantitative experimental design was utilized.
This approach was chosen to
enhance understanding and generalizability by employing random participant assignment. By
employing this method, the researchers aimed to draw more conclusive insights regarding the
effectiveness of pretesting versus rereading in statistics and probability tests.
PARTICIPANTS
The study focused on Grade 11 students at St. Lorenzo Ruiz of FASDS school. A total of 22
students participated. Personal information provided by the students was solely used for
categorization purposes and was not disclosed in the presentation of results.
RESEARCH PROCEDURES
Each student experienced both study methods: pretesting and rereading. The researchers assigned
participant numbers to anonymize data. Participants were tested on the same statistics and
probability topic on both days, but with different assessment questions.
FLOW OF ACTIVITIES DURING DATA COLLECTION
The data collection process involved several steps, as depicted in the following flowchart:
1. Discussion of the study method: Researchers explained the study methods to the
students.
2. Discussion of the Statistics topic by the teacher: The Statistics teacher provided
instruction on the topic.
3. Timed study time for students: Students were given time to study using the assigned
method for the day.
4. Conduction of assessment or test: Students took assessments based on the Statistics
topic studied.
5. Passing of assessments to the teacher: Students submitted their assessments to the
Statistics teacher.
6. Checking of assessments by the teacher: The teacher reviewed and checked the
assessments.
7. Gathering and analysis of test scores: The researchers compiled and analyzed the test
scores.
This process was repeated twice, with "Day 1" utilizing the pretesting study method and "Day 2"
utilizing the rereading study method. Despite focusing on the same topic, different assessment
questions were used each day to ensure unbiased results.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
In this chapter, a comprehensive overview of the research techniques employed in the
study is presented. This encompasses details about the study's participants such as their
demographics and categorization process. Additionally, it delves into the chosen research design
and justifies its selection. The methodologies applied for data collection are outlined, along with
a description of the instruments used. Furthermore, an explanation of how the collected data was
analyzed is provided by the researchers. The selection of this method is anticipated to generate
valuable insights through the collection and examination of data about the effectiveness of
pretesting versus rereading in statistics and probability tests. This study specifically focuses on
Grade 11 students at St. Lorenzo Ruiz of FASDS school as they take an assessment in Statistics
and Probability.
RESEARCH DESIGN
The researchers used the following methods or procedures from the research flow,
environment, participants, and research procedures. To add, the researchers used the quantitative
method through means of using assessments or tests that the students will take and answer to
assess the effectiveness of each study method.
The quantitative experimental design is used here because it allows researchers to gain
more understanding and get more generalizability to reach more conclusiveness with the data
gathered due to the random assignment of participants that the quantitative experimental design
uses. This will help the data to be more valid and applicable to most students, this is in
consideration that the research did not look into the individual differences between each student.
Testing or the use of assessments is used here to determine the effectiveness of the
following study methods through means of statistically analyzing side-by-side the test scores
generated per group performance, such as “Day 1” performance [Doing the pre-testing study
method] and “Day 2” performance [Doing the rereading study method]. Assessments or
conducting a test, after the given study time of the students, are used here as a method to gather
the needed data.
To add, the personal information provided by the students, in which there are 22 students
who participated, as they take the tests are only used for categorization purposes and are not
disclosed as the researchers are to present the data after acquisition of the test/assessments that
are already checked by the Statistics teacher of the classroom.
Each student used both study methods during the day that it was assigned to them. The
way that the researchers categorized the test scores is that the student, with their name, that took
both study methods and the assessments given by the Statistics teacher is assigned a participant
number, participant #1 as an example. Then, the researchers compare the scores amassed by the
student with the assigned study method of day one with the score and assigned study method of
the student of day two.
The data collected from assessments or tests, that is prepared by the researchers with the
help of the Statistics teacher, will be compiled and analyzed.
The following flow chart represents the “Flow of Activities During Data Collection” and
is divided into several moving parts which are: (1) Discussion of the study method to the
students, (2) Discussion of the teacher of a Statistics topic, (3) Timed study time for the students,
(4) Conduction of assessment or test about the Statistics topic, (5) Passing of assessments or tests
from students to the Statistics teacher, (6) Checking of the Statistics teacher of assessments, (7)
Gathering and analysis of test scores. This was done twice which equals day one and day two of
data collection. In which “Day 1” was assigned with the pretesting study method, while “Day 2”
was assigned with the rereading study method.
The following chart is the representation of “Flow Chart of Research Activities” and is
divided into several main phases: (I) Choosing of Research Area, (II) Conduction of “Activities
During Data Collection”, (III) Processing and analysis of data, (IV) Presentation of Results.

PARTICIPANTS
A total of 22 students from Grade 11 St., Lorenzo Ruiz who were enrolled in the
Statistics & Probability subject were involved in the study. The students were informed of the
possible benefits of their cooperation in determining the best learning strategy. The 22 students
were chosen based on their attendance in the Statistics & Probability course, ensuring that they
were directly relevant to the study's goals.
The students who participated are randomly selected based on the quantitative
experimental design but are competent enough to answer the test and finish it on time for
passing of it towards the Statistics teacher for checking. In which the Statistics teacher checked
it and summarized the scores for the researchers to collect and analyze to present various
findings and conclusions later on.
INSTRUMENTS
This study used statistical analysis and test scores. These are used to study the Grade 11
St-Lorenzo Ruiz students in Formative Academic and Skills Development School about the
Efficacy of Pretesting vs. Rereading in Statistics and Probability Tests. The gathering of data
uses statistical analysis and test scores in which these involve a systematic process of collecting,
organizing, analyzing, and interpreting numerical information to draw meaningful conclusions
and make informed decisions. The respondents will answer these through means of taking the
assessment test on statistics set by the teacher and based on their performance, it is where the
researchers will base their data and analysis of the effectiveness of the respective study method.
To obtain the required data, researchers will seek guidance from the Statistics teacher to
develop the assessment/test that is relevant to their discussed topic. The primary data to be
collected will comprise the performance scores that are obtained by the students upon
completing the assessments.
Prior to commencing the research, students will receive a consent form to assess their
willingness to participate. This form will furnish details regarding the study's objectives,
methods, potential advantages and drawbacks, confidentiality protocols, and the voluntary
aspect of involvement. Students will have the chance to review this information and make a
decision on participation by granting their consent.
RESEARCH PROCEDURES
This research’s goal is to collect data, which is test scores, from the students of Grade 11
of Formative Academic and Skills Development School. So that conclusions can be made with
regards to the effectiveness of each study method [Pretesting for Group 1 and Rereading for
Group 2] in the context of mathematical concepts specifically for Statistics and Probability
subjects.
Gathering of Data. Before the students are to participate in this study in which they will
be briefed of the study method, given discussion by the teacher, studying for the assessment,
taking the test, and passing it. They are given a consent form to inform them of their
participation in this study. Once the consent form has been confirmed that they can participate,
the conduction of the research or gathering of data begins in their classroom which is the
classroom of St. Lorenzo Ruiz of FASDS school. The researchers will gather data after the
“Flow of Activities During Data Collection” has been conducted, for the students’ performance
on the assessment given is where the researchers will gather data from and create conclusions.
This is the primary data that the researchers are looking for to determine the effectiveness of the
study method assigned to them in consideration that the researchers have briefed them about the
study method that they will do.
Data Analysis. The usage of statistical and analysis methods, through means of
comparing the scores generated, of the quantitative research design is used to analyze the test
results and compare the effectiveness of the study methods which are pretesting yourself versus
rereading notes.
