Science 10 Learners Module

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to;
1. Describe the parts of the nervous system and along with their functions.
2. Construct a concept map about the parts of the nervous system; and
3. Realize the importance of a healthy nervous system.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Title: The Nervous System
A. Reference: Science 10 Learner’s Material pp. 228-230
B. Materials: Visual aids, PowerPoint presentation, Human Torso, Video clip,
Chalk and Board

C. Ideas and Concepts:

1. The nervous system is responsible for signal transmission between the brain
and the rest of the body, including internal organs. In this way, the nervous
system's activity regulates our ability to move, breathe, see, think, and do
other things.
2. The nervous system is the body's primary controlling, regulatory, and
communicating system.
D. Processes:
Defining, Identifying, Collaborating

E. Values Integration:
1. It is significant to everyone to help us understand the functions of the
nervous system. It regulates everyday activities like waking up, automatic
activities like breathing, and complex processes like thinking, reading,
remembering, and feeling emotions.
2. Almost every aspect of our health and well-being is impacted by the nervous
system. Much of what you think, feel, and do with your body is controlled by
it. It enables you to learn, walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. Additionally, it
directs the body's emergency response.

III. PROCEDURE:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer and Greetings

Everyone, please stand up.

Kindly lead the prayer. (Students follow the instruction)

Good afternoon class!

Okay, Ma’am!

Before we start our class for today, Classmates, let us bow our heads and feel the

and make sure that your places are
well organized and distraction- free.

Please sit down.

Good afternoon, Ma’am Grace!
2. Checking of attendance

Secretary, is anyone absent today?

I am so glad that no one is absent

today. (Students follow the instruction properly)

(Students sit down quietly)

B. Preparatory Activities

1. Review of the past lesson.

Before we proceed to the next topic let
us recall the topic that we discussed at
the last meeting. What was the lesson
that we discussed last meeting? Yes,
Louraine?

I have here a picture of the human

endocrine system. You need to paste
the hormones into their respective
glands.

None, Ma’am!

Very good class! Do you have any
questions on our previous topic?
Okay, this time let us now proceed to
our new topic.

2. Motivation
Before we start discussing it, I need
two volunteers.
(The students will paste the hormones on
their respective glands.)

Listen carefully to my instructions. If I

say “brain” you’re going to put your
hands in your head; when I say “heart”
place your hands at chest level, in a
heart shape; and when I say “touch”,
stretch your hands sideward. Is that
clear?

This time let’s do it faster.

Thank you. You may now take your

seat.

Class, what can you say about the

actions of the bodies of your two
classmates whenever I give the
instructions?

Very good! Based on the responds of

their bodies, we can conclude that the
human body can control and
coordinate activities. Which organ
system do you think is responsible for
this characteristic?
None, ma’am.
Perfect!
3. Unlocking of difficult words
Cerebrum- the largest part of the brain.
Cerebellum- controls voluntary movement.
Peripheral Nervous System- consists of the (The students will raise their hands to

Somatic- associated with the voluntary
control of the body movements.
Autonomic- regulates certain body processes,
such as blood pressure and the rate of
breathing.

C. Lesson Proper Yes, ma’am.

the nervous system, I'm going to flash two
functions, and I want you to analyze them to
see which one is the nervous system's
function. Did you get it?

areas in the brain and spinal cord.
2. It produces hormones that regulate the
activities of cells and organisms.

Exactly! Next, is it function #1 or

function #2?

1. It processes information to determine

the best response.
2. It digests and absorbs nutrients from
the food.

Brilliant! Lastly, is it function #1 or

function #2?

1. It maintains posture and position of the

body.
2. It sends information to muscles, glands,
and organs so they can respond correctly.

Excellent class!

To learn more about the nervous system,

let us have a group activity. I prepared
envelopes for each group containing the
materials and procedures.
Yes, ma’am.
Before we proceed to our activity, let us
discuss first the rubrics for the activity.

Based on the activity, what are the two main
divisions of the Nervous System?

How will you differentiate the two?

of the brain and spinal cord. What do you
think is the function of the brain?
(Each group will clap.)
Good! The brain is divided into three major
parts. What are those?

Exactly! The cerebrum is the largest part of

the brain and is responsible for learning,
intelligence, and judgment. The cerebellum
coordinates voluntary muscle movements and
maintains muscle balance. The brain stem
regulates heart rate, breathing, and blood
pressure, as well as coordinating involuntary
muscle movements.

The Peripheral Nervous System has two main

divisions. What are those two?

How will you differentiate the two?

Yes, Ma’am. We are all ready.

Excellent! The other division, which is the Nervous System.

subdivisions. What are those? The Central Nervous System is the main

system while the Peripheral Nervous System

This time, let us play a game entitled “Fact or

you’re going to analyze whether it is true or
not. If it is true, raise the paper with the word
