Chapter- 4: Button

Button is a trim that fastens the opening of a garment.


They can also be used as a decorative item. So button has
both functional and non-functional uses.
Measurement of Button:
• Button is measured in ligne.
• The longest linear measurement of a button in millimeter
(mm) is called its ligne.
• 40 Ligne = 1 Inch
• 1 ligne = 0.025 inch = 0.635 mm [1 inch=25.4 mm]
• The common sizes of buttons are 12L, 14L,16L, 18L, 24L,
28L, 32L, 36L, 40L.
• 18L & 14L buttons are commonly used for shirts.

garment.
❖ Socket: This part attaches with cap through
the garment fabric.
❖ Stud: This part fits into the socket to form
fastening.
❖ Post: This part attaches with stud through
the garment fabric.
