PERFORMANCE TASK IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

SECOND SEMESTER – THIRD QUARTER S.Y. 2024 – 2025

TOPIC: Random Variables and Probability Distributions

GOAL: To create a written report which utilizes Random Variables and Probability Distribution Table from data
sourced online.
ROLE: You will take on the role of a data analyst conducting research. Your task is to gather data through
research and interpret the responses based on random variables and their distributions.
AUDIENCE: The intended audience are students, teachers, business analysts who will evaluate your
understanding and application of these concepts.
SITUATION: Your job is to determine the probabilities of your expertise and determine how they occur using
observational data from the source online. These observational data will be made into Random Variables, and
will eventually place into a Probability Distribution Table. After making sense of the data gathered, a Written
Report on the interpretation of data should be made right after and it must consist factual information from the
reliable sources to corroborate the content of your findings.
PRODUCT: A WRITTEN REPORT on findings in predicting possible outcomes through the use of Random
Variables and Probability Distribution Table.

GENERAL GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS FOR THE PERFORMANCE TASK

MAKING IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY
THIRD QUARTER, A.Y. 2024 – 2025

These are the guidelines that must be followed in completing the Performance Task in Statistics &
Probability. Follow all instructions carefully and consult your subject teacher if you have any questions
or are in need of any assistance.
1. The Teacher will discuss the performance task with the class, as well as answering questions and
queries from all students.
2. In making the performance task, the students will be given time to discuss their plans in class
during the subject teacher’s time. They may also use the Online Asynchronous Day.
3. They must plan on the following things:
a. Conduct research to collect data on your chosen field.
b. Create Probability Distribution Table and a histogram to represent the data visually.
c. Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the data set obtained from the research.
d. Determine if the data follows a normal distribution using graphical methods (like a bell curve)
and statistical tests.
e. Make a Written Report on the reliable sources searched online.
4. Each group shall have their team leader who will be in charge with the decision making.
5. The group leader will submit a Long Green Expandable Folder containing the leader’s and the
group members’ performance task rubrics, as well as the report.
6. The submission of the rubrics and report will be determined on the submission date assigned by
the subject teacher.

The sample topics are, but not limited to, the following:

• Arts and Design – Number of paintings and sculptures in a museum, Foot traffic in a museum.
• Accountancy, Business, and Management – Number of products sold, Customer foot traffic.
• Home Economics – Number of perfectly made buns in the oven, Advertisement boost for
attractions in the Philippines.
• Humanities and Social Sciences – Number of children in a family, Voters who showed up to
the polls.
• Information, Communication, and Technology – Number of defective devices in the computer
laboratory, Typographical errors in formulas at MS Excel.
• Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – Number of patients in a doctor’s
surgery, Trials in an experiment.
