SEASONS IN THE
PHILIPPINES
SEASON
Season is the period of the year that is
usually characterized by a particular kind of
weather. For instance, planting crops for
farmers is often done during the rainy
season because they need water to cultivate
the soil.
SEASON
On the other hand, they do their
harvesting and drying of their crops during
the dry season when the days are warm and
the sun shines the hottest.
Unlike in some countries where they
have four seasons such as winter, spring,
summer, and fall, the Philippines has only
two seasons.
SEASON
These are the wet and the dry seasons.
We only have two seasons because the
Philippines is a tropical country.
DRY SEASON
The dry season is influenced by
seasonal wind known as the Northeast
Monsoon or Hanging Amihan. The dry
season or summer is characterized by
hot and cloudless days. Usually it starts
between January and May, when the
climate is generally dry with occasional
rain showers.
DRY SEASON
During January to February, the air is
cold and dry. The peak of dry season is
in April with less rain showers.
Temperatures usually soar as high as 37
degrees Celsius and it is really difficult
and inconvenient not to have any form of
good ventilation.
DRY SEASON
DRY SEASON
During the dry season, families and
friends usually find quality time together
and go to beaches, vacation spots and
beautiful sceneries and do some
recreational outdoor activities like hiking,
swimming and mountain climbing.
DRY SEASON
People also gather together to celebrate
important events such as fiestas,
community parade and other
celebrations. It is also the time for house
cleaning and other home improvement
such as gardening and house
construction or repair.
DRY SEASON
Dry season, as mentioned earlier, is also
good for farmers to harvest and dry their
crops as well as for fishermen to dry their
caught fish. During this season, it is
advisable to wear light and comfortable
clothes. People are reminded to avoid
too much exposure from the sun which
may lead to heat stroke.
DRY SEASON
WET SEASON
The wet season in the Philippines is
brought about by the Southwest
monsoon, also known as Hanging
Habagat, which is characterized by
frequent heavy rainfall and humid
weather. During this season, the air is
hot and humid, which brings heavy rain
and typhoons in the country.
WET SEASON
The temperature during the day ranges
from 30 to 36 degrees Celsius and at
night , it ranges from 21 to 28 degrees
Celsius. Precipitation (Rain) is highest in
the area where the southwest monsoon
strikes.
WET SEASON
WET SEASON
The wet season occurs from June to
November. It peaks in July to September
and falls slowly toward the end of the
year. The wet season is characterized by
a pronounced rainy season with
thunderstorms.
WET SEASON
WET SEASON
For farmers, this is the most important
time of the year, for they are able to plant
their crops. People usually do most of
their activities indoor like reading books,
watching television, surfing the net, and
playing indoor games such as chess,
scrabble and video games.
WET SEASON
PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric
Geophysical and Astronomical
Services Administration
(PAGASA) is a government
agency that is tasked to monitor
the weather conditions in the
Philippines.
PAGASA
It is them that we seek when we want to
know the weather for a day or for weeks to
come. The awareness of local weather and
climate is necessary because it affects the
decisions we make in our daily lives.
PAGASA
The weather forecast warns our local
farmers, aircraft and maritime operations,
the local government and other agencies
and institutions for daily precautions and
disaster preparedness.
