No carpet shall be installed until all services installations, building work, plastering
and decoration

4.04 Protection of Carpet during Installation

The Carpet Contractor shall protect carpet underlays and carpets, during the period
of installation, from all damage, staining or marking caused by other trades or the
passage through the area of carpet installation of materials and workmen. The
Contractor shall keep carpets properly protected for such time as may be directed
by the Consultant.

4.05 Protection

The carpet Contractor shall protect all surfaces, fittings, fixtures and other
furnishings from damage causes through his operations during carpet installation.

4.06 Installation – Standards

Carpets shall be installed to the highest standards of good workmanship and shall
be in full accordance with the Drawing Schedules and Specifications and BS 525 :
Installation of Textile Floor Coverings. Carpets shall be installed accurately as
shown on the Drawings and shall fit exactly to skirtings, architraves, free-standing
columns and other perimeters and be perfect on completion.

4.07 Defects

Any defect whatsoever in the final carpet installation, including those of


manufacture, will not be accepted, in particular those defects associated with
testings as Clause 2.04 : colour fastness; soiling, staining and marking; stretching,
tautness, evenness and flatness; metal edges and accessories; strength,
straightness and flatness of seams; edges and terminations; direction and
positioning of patterns, colour and dye lots; underlay; preparation and dryness of
sub-floor and generally any part of the carpet installation not in accordance with the
Drawings and Specifications or which in the consultant’s opinion is unsatisfactory.

4.08 Waste

Allow for all waste to carpet, from trimming, fitting to accurately locate patterns,
borders, terminations, seams etc. All waste carpet of more than 1 square yard (1
square metre) shall be set aside for use as possible replacement pieces if required
by the Consultant.

4.09 Flatness & Smoothness

All carpets shall be installed perfectly flat, smooth and even, No visual or other sign
of surface unevenness shall be visible in the final carpet installation.

4.10 Colour Fastness – Fading & Staining

Carpet which shows fading or staining caused by the effects of sunlight, spillages,
cleaning or any other reason will not be accepted.

4.11 Staining & Spilling etc

Carpet which shows signs of staining, spilling, marking or evidence of foreign
