I recently had the opportunity to attend three different talks, each addressing important issues in
our society today: Drug and Substance Abuse, Safe Space Act and Anti-Bastos Law, and
Environmental Protection. These topics gave me a lot to think about, and I wanted to share some
of my reflections on what was discussed.

1. Drug and Substance Abuse: Prevention and Control (PLT Fatima P. Lanuza-Ibias)

The talk on drug and substance abuse was very eye-opening. PLT Fatima P. Lanuza-Ibias
discussed how widespread the problem is and how it affects not only the individuals who use
drugs but also their families and communities. One key point that stuck with me was the
importance of prevention. She emphasized that we must educate people, especially the youth,
about the dangers of drug use and provide them with better options for their future. It made me
realize how much responsibility we all share in making sure that people, especially those at risk,
have the right support. Control measures, like better law enforcement and rehabilitation
programs, are important, but without prevention, the cycle continues.

2. Safe Space Act and Anti-Bastos Law (Atty. Arlene Q. Alangco)

Atty. Arlene Q. Alangco’s talk on the Safe Space Act and Anti-Bastos Law was both informative
and empowering. She explained how these laws are designed to protect people from any form of
harassment, whether it’s in public places, workplaces, or even online. What stood out to me the
most was how important it is to create a society where everyone feels safe and respected. I
learned that these laws not only help prevent harassment but also give individuals the courage to
speak up when they are treated unfairly. This made me reflect on how much we need to continue
promoting respect and kindness in our communities, and how the law can be a tool to help make
this possible.

3. Environmental Issues and Problems, Protection and Preservation (Dr. Butch O. Saulon)

Finally, Dr. Butch O. Saulon’s talk on environmental issues really made me think about the
impact we’re having on our planet. From climate change to pollution, he explained how urgent it
is for us to take action to protect the environment. I was particularly struck by how everyday
actions, like waste disposal and resource use, contribute to larger environmental problems. Dr.
Saulon stressed the importance of conservation and finding sustainable solutions to reduce our
impact on nature. I realized that while the problems are big, small actions—like reducing plastic
use and supporting renewable energy—can make a difference.

Conclusion:

These talks were a reminder of how interconnected the issues we face today are. Whether it’s
drug abuse, harassment, or environmental problems, they all need our attention and action. After
listening to the speakers, I feel more aware of the steps we can take to create a better society.
Prevention, laws that protect everyone, and taking care of our planet are all important, and it’s up
to all of us to make a difference.
