Activating prior knowledge

1. Think of any notion of history that you know. List as many as you can on a sheet of paper.

The notions of history that I know are Colonial History in the Philippines,Revolutionary
History, Martial Law and EDSA People Power History.

2. From this information, which is the most significant one for you? Why do you think so?

The most significant notion of history for me is Colonial History, especially in the context of
the Philippines. Because by understanding colonial history it will continue to shape many
aspects of Philippine society. Such as the Filipinos will critically assess the country’s past, and
recognize the benefits and harms of colonization, and to work towards a future based on true
independence and having their own national identity.

3. What about the other information? Why are they less important or significant?

The other notions are still important but I believe that Colonial History stands out as the
most important because it shaped our nation until today and it also focuses on the Filipinos
struggle for independence from the aggressors, and it served as the foundation for many of
these perspectives. Other notions are less significant because they often focus on specific
aspects like political systems, economic structures or cultural elites, In which it can overlook the
broader experiences of the Filipino people.

5 peso coin features Apolinario Mabini and the 10 peso coin is both Apolinario Mabini and
Andres Bonifacio.

Apolinario Mabini, were featured in various denominations of Philippine peso coin because of
their prominent roles in the fight for independence.
