AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR GIRLS

INTRODUCTION:
On 9th January, 2025, an awareness program was conducted at the Government Welfare
School of Ozhalur for girls in grades 6 to 8. The program focused on two important topics:
the importance of education for women and awareness and tips to overcome sexual
harassment and abuse. The aim was to empower young girls by emphasizing the value of
education and equipping them with knowledge and skills to stay safe and confident in
challenging situations.
MAIN FOCUS:
The program had two primary goals:
1. Importance of Education for Women: To help the girls understand how education
can transform their lives, providing them with opportunities for personal growth,
independence, and success. The program highlighted the role of education in building
confidence, achieving goals, and breaking stereotypes.
2. Awareness and Tips on Sexual Harassment and Abuse: To create awareness about
the different forms of harassment and abuse, the program taught the girls how to
recognize unsafe situations, protect themselves, and seek help when needed. Practical
tips and strategies, such as saying "no" firmly, avoiding unsafe environments, and
reaching out to trusted adults or helplines, were discussed.
OUTCOME OF THE PROGRAM:
The program was well-received by the students. The session on education motivated them to
dream big and work hard to achieve their goals, reinforcing the idea that education is a
powerful tool for a better future. The discussion on harassment and abuse helped the girls
understand the importance of being aware of their surroundings and standing up for
themselves. The program succeeded in building their confidence and giving them a sense of
security.
CHALLENGES FACED:
The program faced a few challenges:
1. Conveying Sensitive Topics: It was challenging to present the topic of sexual
harassment and abuse in a way that was appropriate for the children’s age while
ensuring they understood its seriousness. Careful wording and examples were
required to address the topic sensitively.
2. Keeping the Girls Engaged: Getting the children to listen attentively and stay
focused during the discussions was another difficulty. Interactive methods, such as
storytelling and role-playing, were used to capture their interest and make the session
more engaging.
Despite these challenges, the program was a success, leaving the girls better informed and
inspired to prioritize their education and stay strong in the face of adversity.
