Challenges relating to digitization are addressed through a number of initiatives that aim at an
all-digital inclusion packaged towards sustainability. The United Nations acknowledges the fact
that digital technology greatly contributes to the achievement of the sustainable development
goals through all round connectivity and financial inclusion among others. Access to global trade
is the main agenda behind digital connectivity.

Within the same footing, the United Nations through World Health Organization and other
partners in the health sector have embraced the use of AI in complex surgeries and diseases
diagnosis. Institutions that have partnered with the United Nations are also embracing virtual
learning to make education more accessible to individuals that are in areas prone to
environmental challenges as well as riddled with poverty.

Digitization as a phenomenal factor goes without its challenges on issues relating to privacy and
security concerns. In such situations, personal data of an individual or even corporation can be
accessed by unauthorized persons for their personal use. Such related situation include hacking
for personal financial gains. Mitigating these risks has always posed a challenge and the United
Nation emphasizes the inclusion of the digital laws and policies to tackle the menace on the most
affected people in the society to include the elderly, children and women.

Similarly, the UNDP addresses these challenges through working groups with public officials
and the citizens at large. Their working agenda is aimed at defining the problems they face in the
digital space and coming up with solutions thereof. By extension of this, the collaboration is also
aimed at identifying the role of digitization in improving the lives of the citizens.

The United Nations Development Program as an institution has also focused on the creation of
an digital environment that will foster the consumption of digital technology. The agenda behind
this is to ensure that the digitization efforts put by the UN is broad based and non-discriminative.
A case in point to illustrate this is during the COVID 19 pandemic, countries that were
embracing digital tools were supported by the UN to promote digital classes for students during
the lock down Similarly, meetings and businesses were also conducted online through the digital
space. In its bid to mainstream digital solutions and promote accessibility, the UN has harnessed
the benefits of the digital space while at the same time addressing the challenges to build an
equitable and sustainable future for the digital space.

The International Organizations play a critical role in addressing the daily global challenges.
However, they face numerous challenges and limitations that keep their effectiveness below the
par. Taking the lead at hindering the international organizations I addressing the challenges is
inefficient bureaucracy. The complex structures such as the one at the United Nations pose a big
challenge for it needs a lengthy approval in the decision-making process and this in most cases
delays the timely response that is needed to address a situation. A case in point is the complex
coordination between the UN agencies and sometimes even between nations when consensus is
needed. This bureaucracy stands as a bottleneck towards addressing the challenges.

Resource constrains also play a critical role in posing limitation to International Organizations in
tackling complex global challenges. Being the fact that these originations are formed by member
states and that they rely on funding from their members, the inconsistency poses a big challenge
to achieving their agenda. The resource dependency will in one way or another lead to shortfall
in finances and this thus limits their scope. A case in point to illustrate this situation was durin
the COVID 19 pandemic, the WHO faced a myriad of challenges in tackling the issues at hand
and this impacted on their efforts to respond to the pandemic effectively. Similarly, financial
constraints can restrict the ability of these organizations to implement long-term development
projects, as they may prioritize immediate needs over sustainable solutions.

The dynamism in politics also poses a challenge for these organizations to achieve their agenda.
The organizations must inmost at times navigate the rough political landscapes of interests of
their member states. The end result of this is that their effectiveness as global organizations are
diluted. A case in point is the UNSC which in a number of times has faced a deadlock when it
comes to vetoing. The five powers which include the US, Rusia, France, China and UK usually
in most cases have a different perspective of an emergency that require veto decision. This in the
end becomes a challenge to the UNSC to come up with a concrete decision towards addressing t
the urgency. The complexity of this matter undermines the ability of the UNSC to meaningfully
achieve its mandate.
Limited authority and enforcement power imposed upon the international organizations also pose
a challenge. These organizations can set standards but they lack the ability to enforce these
standards and recommendations. This is akin to a bulldog that cannot bite and this is another
challenge that the UNSC faces in implementing its mandate. One area that these organizations
face a critical challenge is the enforcement of the environmental protection recommendations
among member countries. Because the Paris Climate Agreement requires voluntary agreement
among member states, enforcing the covenant becomes a bottleneck. The result of this is that the
progress will be slow as some countries will not commit to their side of the obligation.

Global dynamics and the rise of populist political agenda pose as a challenge to the relevance of
these international organization. The multinational organizations will in most cases realize a
reduced support based on the shift of the political agenda of these organizations. A case in point
is in the previous Trump led regime, the US had made attempts or totally withdrew from most of
the international organizations. Its withdrawal exposed the underbelly of these organizations and
as such, they were struggling to stand on their feet.

Such a move in most cases weakens an origination’s ability to achieve its main agenda and
collectively address the global challenges
