Cleaning pipework with

OXYL-PRO® Clean 20
Biofilm remover and disinfectant cleaner

Why OXYL-PRO?

OXYL-PRO is a very effective decontamination agent containing a unique blend of food safe hydrogen
peroxide with food safe activators and stabilisers, offering an excellent environmentally safe
alternative to silver peroxides. The result of the unique formulation is a mild but extremely effective
product. OXYL-PRO is very stable and due to its microencapsulation process, will only act in the
presence of organic materials, giving a much longer disinfection capability; no product is wasted.

The cleaning of pipework in buildings is a crucial step in ensuring clean water is delivered throughout
the water distribution system. By removing biofilm from pipework, an important source of bacteria
for harmful micro-organisms to survive is taken away. The result is clean pipework delivering clean
water. OXYL-PRO is a very effective biofilm remover and is also effective against gram-positive and
gram-negative bacteria including legionella, pseudomonas, yeasts and fungi.

If biofilm is left to build up in pipework it can lead to corrosion, resulting in blocked or leaking pipes.
It harbours harmful bacteria, allowing it to grow and proliferate throughout the water system. It can
result in foul smells from the system and can significantly reduce water flow. Furthermore it can
create a barrier to biocides such as chlorine.

HOW IT WORKS

Oxyl-Pro® molecule

Oxyl-Pro contains microencapsulated oxygen, allowing for controlled reaction. It attacks the slime
layer of the biofilm which allows the product to oxidise micro-organisms. No resistance to the
product is possible and micro-organisms do not become resistant to it. OXYL-PRO leaves no taste,
odour or taint in the water when dosed at the recommended levels.

OXYL-PRO is certified under NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 for drinking water and is an approved product under
the European Biocidal Products Regulation.

ADVANTAGES

 All food grade raw materials, contains no silver or other heavy metals
 NSF/ ANSI 60 drinking water certified
 Suitable for continuous dosing
  Waste products are water and oxygen, both naturally occuring in the environment
  Destroys biofilms and eliminates “microbial hideout”
  Quickly kills bacteria, including legionella. (European Standards pr EN13623 2010)
  Has no build-up of resistance in the microbial population
  Fully effective through a pH range of 2 – 10 and temperatures up to 90 oC.
  Has no odour, taint or taste at the recommended rates of use

EUROPEAN BIOCIDAL PRODUCTS REGULATION (BPR)
OXYL-PRO is supported for the Biocide Products Regulation for the following categories.
  PT01 – Human Hygiene (Hand sanitiser)

METHODS FOR CLEANING PIPEWORK

There are several methods of cleaning pipework with OXYL-PRO Clean 20 and this is largely
dependent on the time available to carry out the procedure and also the application.

 Downwater services disinfection (buildings)

50ppm as H202 (250mls in 1000L water) – residence time in pipes: minimum 60 minutes
General disinfection with no bacterial issues
Water should not be used during disinfection as this will dilute the product and reduce efficacy.
Provide bottled water for operatives to drink during this phase.

 Contaminated systems – fast treatment

Heavily contaminated systems including Legionella - shock treatment for at least 60 minutes
using a dose rate of 18L product in 1000L water.
Water must not be used as the concentration of Oxyl-Pro is too high for ingestion by humans.
Provide bottled water for operatives to drink during this phase.

 Contaminated systems – slow treatment

350ppm as H202 (1.8L in 1000L water) for minimum 6 hours
Water should not be used during disinfection as this will dilute the product and reduce efficacy.
However it is possible to proportionally dose into the system to maintain H2O2 levels.
Provide bottled water for operatives to drink during this phase.

 Continuous dosing 20 ppm as H2O2 (100mls in 1000L water)

Maintenance dose rate for clean systems
System should be disinfected by one of the methods above prior to continuous dosing.
NSF/ANSI 60 Certified for use in drinking water systems.

A generic method statement for downwater services is available from Chemiteq.

METHODS FOR TESTING OXYL-PRO
There are several ways of testing the product residuals. The quick measurement is by use of test
strips or the more accurate way is to use a test kit.
Test strips are available as follows:

Low Range 0 – 100 ppm

Mid Range 0 - 1000 ppm
High Range 500-5000 ppm

All test strips are supplied in tubs of 100 strips.

We offer a drop test kit for measuring Oxyl-Pro. The kit contains all the necessary reagents for
testing between 10- 5000 ppm as H2O2.
