FilmArray® Torch LIS Interface
Checklist
TECHNICAL
Introduction
::: NOTE
The FilmArray Torch is capable of interfacing with a laboratory information
system (LIS). FilmArray test results can be electronically transferred from a
FilmArray Torch to an LIS (unidirectional communication).
This checklist outlines the steps necessary to implement the FilmArray Torch LIS
interface. Prior to implementation, review the checklist and contact the following
parties:
Internal LIS implementation team at the facility:
o Lab personnel
o Local networking and security IT personnel
o LIS support personnel
LIS vendor representative
Applications Specialist
Step 1: Contact LIS vendor representative
Responsible parties: Lab personnel, LIS support personnel
☐ Obtain a driver for the LIS. The FilmArray Torch requires a compatible
driver that is unique to each LIS provider. If a driver is not available,
documentation to assist LIS vendors with driver development is available
upon request:

NOTE: Some LIS vendors cannot directly interface with the FilmArray
Torch but the communication may be achieved through middleware.
☐ Determine which transfer protocol(s) the LIS vendor recommends to
communicate with the FilmArray Torch. The driver should support shared
folder protocol and/or file transfer protocol (FTP).
Step 2: Order the FilmArray Link Software
Responsible parties: Lab personnel, LIS support personnel
☐ Once the driver has been ordered, contact BioFire Customer Support to
order the FilmArray Link software. Refer to the Technical Support
Contact Information section below.

☐ Perform a security review of the FilmArray Torch. The FilmArray Torch is TECHNICAL
an FDA-cleared medical device. Refer to the MDS2 form for more
information regarding the networking and security of the FilmArray Torch. ::: NOTE
Consider the following as part of the security review:
The FilmArray Torch is not equipped with antivirus software.
Depending on the transfer protocol recommended by the LIS vendor, the
FilmArray Torch may need to be added to the domain and/or assigned a
static IP address.
Step 4: Set up and configure the FilmArray LIS interface
Responsible parties: Internal LIS implementation team, and LIS vendor
representative and Applications Specialist (if desired)
☐ Once the driver and the FilmArray Link software have been obtained,
complete the interface setup instructions in the FilmArray Torch LIS
Interface technical note which is provided with the FilmArray Link
Software v3.0 packet.
Step 5: Validate the FilmArray LIS interface
Responsible parties: Lab personnel, LIS support personnel
☐ Validate the interface according to LIS vendor or internal lab procedures
to ensure it is functioning as intended.
☐ Verify that the test results from the FilmArray Torch are imported correctly
into the LIS.
