Week 2: Outdoor Activities

Reading Worksheet for A2 Level (2nd Secondary)

PART A: Reading

Read about two popular outdoor activities.

Adventure Blog: Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is one of my favorite outdoor activities! Last weekend, I went mountain
biking with my friends in Forest Park. We started early in the morning because the weather
forecast said it would be hot in the afternoon.

You need some special equipment for mountain biking. First, you need a mountain bike
with good tires. A helmet is very important for safety. I also wear special gloves and
sunglasses. I always take a water bottle and some snacks in my backpack.

The best thing about mountain biking is exploring nature. We saw beautiful trees and even
some birds and rabbits. The trails have different difficulty levels. Beginners can take easy
trails that are quite flat. Advanced riders can try difficult trails with big rocks and steep
hills.

Mountain biking is good exercise. It helps build strong legs and improves your balance.
After three hours of biking, we were tired but happy!

Camping Under the Stars

Camping is a great way to disconnect from technology and enjoy nature. My family goes
camping twice a year, in spring and autumn. We avoid summer because it's too hot and
winter because it's too cold.

Before going camping, we make a list of things to take: a tent, sleeping bags, food, cooking
equipment, warm clothes, and a first aid kit. We also take a map of the camping area and
a compass.

Setting up the tent is always a team effort. My dad and I put up the poles while my mom
and sister secure the tent to the ground. When everything is ready, we collect wood to
make a campfire.

At night, we sit around the fire, tell stories, and roast marshmallows. The best part is
looking at the stars in the dark sky. There are no city lights, so you can see thousands of
stars!
