END OF TERM EXAMINATIONS 2025

INSTRUCTIONS:

All items are compulsory and carry equal score:

ITEM ONE

The Government of Uganda sponsors students who perform exceptionally well in the UACE
examinations to pursue further education at the university level.

However, to ensure that it is supporting truly outstanding individuals, the government requires that
the spread of student scores (standard deviation) be at least 10 points, and that only those who
score above the average will qualify for the scholarship.

Additionally, it is noted that the most frequently achieved score for this year will be used as the
cutoff point for the following year.

The data below represent the performance scores of the students under consideration

Points 5 -< 7 7 -< 9 9 -< 12 12-< 15 15-< 17 17-< 20

Number of Students in (100’) 25 32 17 50 12 9

TASK

Help the government determine whether to go ahead and fund the students using the given data.

How many points must a student score in order to qualify for the scholarship?

Using a suitable statistical diagram, identify the cutoff points for next year.

ITEM TWO

Mr Kyambadde a renown baker in kyebando bakes several wheat products. He noted that In 2020,
the price index of wheat using 2019 as the base was 180. In 2021, the price index using 2020 as the
base year was 150

Still in Bwaise, Carpenters operate under a cooperative that manages daily collections and
shares revenues between the workshop owner, and the driver. On a particular day, the total
daily collection from sales is calculated using a formula that results in a rational function.
The cooperative's accountant needs to distribute the earnings fairly among stakeholders.
The formula for the day’s total net income is:
3 X +5
f ( X )=
( X+ 2)( X +1)
To determine how much the workshop owner and the carpenter should receive, the
accountant wants to split this income formula into simpler components.
