                                        Instructions
1. This paper consists of sections A and B with a total of seven (7) questions.
2. Answer a total of five (5) questions, two (2) questions from section A and three (3)
   questions from section B. Question number one (1) is compulsory.
3. In section A question number one (1) carries 25 marks and the other carry 15 marks each,
   while in section B each question carries 20 marks.
4. Credit will be given for the use of relevant sketch maps and diagrams.
5. Map extract of MBEYA (sheet 244/4) is provided.
6. Non-programmable calculators may be used.
7. All writings must be in blue or black ink except for drawing which must be in pencil.
8. Cellular phones and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination room.
9. Write your Examination Number on every page of your answer booklet(s).

                                 SECTION A (40 Marks)
     Answer two (2) questions in this section. Question number one (1) is compulsory.
1. Study carefully the map extract of Mbeya sheet 244/4 provided and answer the following
   questions.
   (a) On the map provided, Kulwa and Dotto observed that magnetic variation was 09o and
       47′ by February 2015. Find a new magnetic variation of a place by April 2019 if the
       annual change was 02′ negatively.
   (b) Measure the approximate area in km2 of the map Eastings 510, if its scale is changed
       to read 1:100,000.
   (c) From the mapped area, identify three (3) determinants of climate and then describe
       what they suggest about the type of climate of the area.
   (d) Describe four (4) factors that have influenced composition of the mapped area.
   (e) Identify the geological structure of the mapped area. Give two (2) points.
   (f) Comment on the population distribution and give three (3) factors that have
       influenced its distribution.
   (g) Identify main types of vegetation in the mapped area.
   (h) In which hemisphere is the mapped area found? Give evidence.
2. The Following are hypothetical data showing performance of selected students of form
   four National examination in Geography from 2001-2004.

   (a) Present the statistical data above by means of composite percentage bar graph.
   (b) Describe three (3) strengths and three (3) weaknesses of the above method.
   (c) Name other four (4) statistical techniques that can be used to present above data.

3. (a) Study the photograph below then answer the questions that follow.
       (i)     With evidence identify the dominant type of rock shown in the photograph.
       (ii)    Mention three (3) characteristics of the rock you have mentioned in (a) above.
       (iii)   Explain how the type of rock you have mentioned in (a) above is formed.
       (iv)    Describe three (3) uses of the type of rock in (a) above.
   (b) A drone flying at 1.6km above the sea level, used for taking a photograph from
       military ship at Indian Ocean. Determine the focal length of the camera if the photo
       scale is 1:50,000.
                                  SECTION B (60 Marks)
                          Answer only three (3) questions in this section
4. Mzee Madobe is a farmer at Ngongele village, he is considering soil as a living entity
   because it is used for cultivating maize and rice, and thus he experiences different
   characteristics of the soil, that’s why he came up with that conclusion. Support Mzee
   Madobe’s view in six (6) points.
5. There was a long debate between form five students and form six students about
   relevance of continental drift to African continent. The form five students opposed the
   motion but form six students proposed it. With six (6) arguments support form five
   students.
6. Mr. Tai is an oceanographer who makes exploration about oceans and seas. He discovered
   that oceans and seas have different concentration of soluble salt. In six (6) points describe
   how this situation is possible.
7. “The atmospheric insulation is not equally distributed all over the world.” Substantiate
   this statement with six (6) points.
