5 Project Management Process Groups:

1. Initiating Process Group


2. Planning Process Group
3. Executing Process Group
4. Monitoring and Controlling Process Group
5. Closing Process Group
• They performed to define a new project
or a new phase of an existing project by
obtaining authorization to start the
project or phase.
• They are required to establish the scope
of the project, refine the objectives, and
define the course of action required to
attain the objectives that the project was
undertaken to achieve.
• They performed to complete the work
defined in the project management plan
to satisfy project requirements .
• They required to track, review, regulate
the progress and performance of the
project; identify any areas in which
changes to the plan are required; and
initiate the corresponding changes.
• They performed to formally complete
and close a project, phase or contract.
• These five process groups are independent
of the application areas, or industry focus.
• Individual processes in the process groups
are often iterated prior to completing a
phase or project.
• The number of process iterations and interactions
between processes varies based on the need of the project
