(Curtain opens)
Scene 1
A young girl steps out of the main room with a toast in her mouth
The girl: Maa I am getting late for school! Let me go! I promise I will finish it when I come home!
Her Mother: No Renu! Eat something else you will starve yourself and get sick!
Renu: Oh mother! Have you seen me! Look at my big thighs and chubby face! Do you think anything will
happen to me! God, if anything, I wish this will be gone and I can be like my peers. They are all so skinny
and beautiful! (Looks at the clock) Oh my god! I don’t have time for this, bye maa!
Scene 2
At the school
Renu: Hi Priya! God it’s only been two days since I’ve seen you yet it feels like an eternity!
Priya: Hi Renu! Ya me too. Guess we are the same!
The bell rings
Renu: Well you heard it. Let’s go to our classrooms. I don’t wanna be absent!
Priya: yup. Don’t wanna do that on a Monday.
Scene 3
In the classroom
Teacher: Laxmi… Sulekha … Renu …
Renu: …
Teacher: Renu!!
Renu: present mam!
Some girl in the backseat: Oh my god Renu! I guess she has gotten so FAT that she can’t even hear
anything!
The whole class erupts laughing
Teacher: Silence! Trisha that was very mean of you! Say sorry
Trisha: (rolling her eyes) I am sorry Renu
Renu stood there, feeling embarassed and thinking about how much she hated her body
Even though she felt wrenched from inside,she reluctantly said: it’s ok Trisha
And went back to her seat
Priya: uggghhh!! I just hate Trisha ! She is pretty but that doesn’t mean she has the right to bully
others… are you ok Renu!
Renu: Ya… I am fine. Even though this happens to me everyday,I still can’t get used to it
Priya: oh renu..
Teacher: Quiet class!
R&P: yes sir
Scene 4
(Later that day, during recess)
(Bell rings)
Priya: Finally it’s recess! I was so bored from all the classes and algebra!
Renu: ya finally, we can eat something
(Trisha walks past Renu and pushes her. Her tiffin went flying in the corner and Renu Fell to the
ground)
Priya: Renu! Are you okay?
Renu: Aaahh!!!
Trisha: oops! Sorry! Maybe you shouldn’t have been so fat and ugly! Hahaha! (She went to her
friends,laughing)
Priya: that girl! You wait Renu. I am going to push her back! How dare she?!
Renu: No Priya stop! Look I am fine! And if anything she was probably right, I am just too fat!
Priya: No Renu! You’re beautiful!
Renu: ya ya ; let’s go before the bell next period starts !
Scene 5
(During maths class)
Teacher: so class a² +b²= ?
Everyone:….
Teacher : ok so nobody’s going to answer. Then, Renu. Come to the board and solve this
Renu(dazed): y-yes sir!
(She gets up from her seat and starts solving the question)
Renu:…
Trisha: Mam I can’t see the board because of Renu’s big body!!
(Everybody erupted with laughter)
(Renu couldn’t hold back her tears and she went outside the class to cry)
Scene 6
Renu: oh god! Why did you make me this way? Can’t you have given me a slimmer body and perfect
skin! I just want to fit in and be appreciated!
(She dug her face in her knees and started to cry when…)
Teacher: Renu are you okay? Please don’t cry. Don’t show your weak side to anyone. This will only make
them stronger.
(Renu looks up)
Renu: but mam it is just my fault that I was born this. I couldn’t have controlled it. I am not slim or pretty
like them. I should be mocked for it.
Teacher: no Renu.. it’s not your fault at all. We are all different and we are all beautiful. In order for
them to stop, you have to start loving your body instead of loathing it. You have been loathing yourself
for years. Atleast try to love yourself for once!
Renu: yes teacher, you are right. I shouldn’t let anybody hurt me. After all it’s my body! At least I have it!
I shall face them now!
Teacher: that’s my girl!
Scene 7
(Renu enters the classroom to confront Trisha)
Trisha: look who’s here! A giant hippo!
(Class erupted in laughter)
Renu: stop! You can’t hurt me with those words anymore! The reality is: you are also insecure about
yourself and you are just lltrying to take out your self loathing on me! Now stop doing that and
appreciate yourself and others around you!
Trisha (after a pause): you are right renu. I am jealous of you. You are so full and have such a beautiful
body without any marks. I shouldn’t have done that. I am sorry. Will you forgive me?
Renu: yes Trisha I will!
(They both hug and the class cheers for them)
