SSD0001 rev12 D20/D200 Hardware
©2007, General Electric Canada. All rights reserved.
D20M++ and D20ME/ME II Comparison
D20ME/MEII
• Backwards compatible to the D20M++
• Runs the same applications (code)
that the D20M++ runs
• Plugs into the same D20/D200 chassis
that the D20M++ uses vs
• BootROM provides same functionality
as D20M++ bootROM
45/

D20M++ and D20ME/ME II Comparison
D20ME/MEII - cont.
• Approximately 2.5 times the
processing power of the D20M++
• Able to run all 7 RS-232 serial
channels at 38.4k baud (1/2 Duplex)
versus only 1 RS-232 channel at 38.4k vs
baud for the D20M++
• Improved flexibility inherent in its
design (i.e. easier upgrading with flash
memory means there are no EPROMs
to remove and program)

D20M++ and D20ME/ME II Comparison
D20ME/MEII - cont.
• No configuration and firmware re-
downloading necessary if batteries
are replaced one at a time (i.e. two
battery system)
vs

Addressing
• Every peripheral must be configured with a unique address
– This address must match the address configured in ConfigPro for the
peripheral
– Addresses for the peripherals on the first D.20 Link set of a vertical slot
D200 and on all D20s are even parity
– Addresses for peripherals on the second D.20 Link set of a vertical slot
D200 are odd parity
• Addresses are configured using an eight bit jumper on the Westerm
• See module layout drawing associated with your peripheral for details on
the jumpers.

Peripherals - Overview
Addressing – cont.
Four Step Procedure
• Assuming you are trying to address the fifth peripheral in the system
1. Convert the peripheral number to binary
• 5d = 101b
2. Place the decimal number in a set of 8 bits
• Shifting all bits 1 left leaving the LSB Blank
• 0000 101_
3. If the number of high (1) bits is even make the LSB a 0, if the number of high
(1) bits is odd make the LSB a 1
• 0000 101_ shows 2 high (1) bits
4. 0000 1010 is the address for the fifth peripheral

Wesmaint Issues
• Is the D20 running?
– Check the LEDs on the front of the unit. If there are some
LEDs on then Wesmaint should be accessible. If all LEDs
are off then there is no power to the board.
– Check that the power supply is on and wired properly. Use
a volt meter to check the voltage on the front of the power
supply. Does it register +5V, +12V and +48V respectively.
• Is a Wesmaint cable (977-0048) being used to connect the
PC's communication port to the Wesmaint port on the RTU?

Peripheral Boards
• Are any LEDs on?
– If the LEDs are not on, then power is not reaching the board. Check
that the D.20 link cable (997-0089) is connected to the correct port on
the D20/D200 and the correct port on the peripheral board.
– If the LEDs are on, then remove the Wesdac board and check that the
address jumpers match the configuration.
The order that the peripheral boards are linked together on the D.20 Link does
not need to correspond to the addressing of the peripheral boards. For
example, the fourth peripheral board could be the first in the D.20 link but it still
needs the fourth address setting.
