connected to your problem. Limit your introduction to 200- 250 words)
Statement of the Problem
The study aims to determine the relationship between ____(title)_____.
Specifically, this aims to find answers to the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
1.1 age;
1.2 gender and
1.3 Socio—economic Status?
2. What is the extent of __independent variable__?
3. What is the level of _dependent variable____?
4. Is there a significant relationship between the respondent’s profile and
the extent of ___independent variable__?
5. Is there a significant relationship between the respondent’s profile and
their level of ___dependent variable___?
6. Is there a significant difference between the extent of __independent
variable__ and the level of ___dependent variable___?
3
Hypotheses
The following null hypothesis are formulated in relation to the problems:
1. There is no significant relationship between the profile of the
respondents and the extent of __independent variable____.
2. There is no significant relationship between the profile of the
respondents and their level of __dependent variable__.
3. There is no significant relationship between the extent of __independent
variable_ and the level of ___dependent variable___.
Theoretical Framework
(The theoretical framework is the structure that can hold or support a theory
of a research study. The theoretical framework introduces and describes the
theory that explains why the research problem under study exists.)
Research Framework
This part of the study has a research paradigm referred to as Figure. 1,
which comprises of two parts, namely, the independent variable and the
dependent variable. Each part contains information that are useful for the
researcher during and after conducting the study.
The independent variables contain the profile of the respondent such as
____________, ____________, and student’s _______________.
The dependent variable shows the student’s behavioral development
which is affected by the independent variable.
The two rectangles are interconnected by an arrow which signifies the
relationship that exists on the data in each process.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES AND STUDIES
This chapter sought to review the literature as it related to politeness
strategies. It sought to establish the relationships between these variables and
the behavioral development of students. It also included related literature and a
summary of studies conducted by foreign and local researchers which the writer
considered relevant to the study.

5 FOR DEPENDENT VARIABLE
(Sample)
Manik (2017) stated that first education was started at home, education
that given to the kids is not the same to all level of society. The immediate family
is responsible for the youth formation of an individual.
According to Blessing (2019) there are different types of family structures,
nuclear, extended, single parent, childless, step and grandparents. Many
researchers believed that type of family influences the development of a person.
The importance of type of family changed to understanding the effects of
family instability. For children born to married parents, movement out of a two-
12
biological and into a single-parent family was associated with a significant
increase in behavior problems when experienced during early childhood or
preschool, as hypothesized. However, movement into a blended family was not
associated with long-term changes in children’s behavior problems when
experienced at any time point, relative to experiencing no change in family
structure (Ryan, 2018).
Regulating the politeness strategies and behavioral development of an
individual was one of the most fundamental and universal functions of the family.
However, its use and performance were governed by culturally conditioned
norms and a system of situationally dependent rules.
PROFILE 2
According to Asjuh (2018) while he observed the classroom situation and
interaction, children distinguished the politeness strategies that they used to
their teachers. They dutifully obedient and used a soft and polite language when
speaking and interacting with the older teacher who was basically a cheerful
(always smile), kind, and using soft and polite language.
Nor and Azis (2010) studied politeness relation in decision making. In
social media, politeness also became a good strategy of communication (Nor,
2012).
13
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE
Jing (2010) claimed that in the context of language teaching, politeness
was believed to enhance learning by providing a lively and friendly atmosphere in
the classroom.
Another study on this issue by Sukarno (2018) who studied politeness in
relation to the use of requests. All of these studies proved that politeness had
important roles in communication. Politeness issues did not merely attract
attentions of scholars in the field of sociolinguistics and anthropolinguistics as
explained. Other settings of communication, such as education and classroom
setting, also highlight the important roles of politeness.
Payne-Woolridge’s (2010) this study had focused on face work in the
classroom, which in fact became an alternative to introduce a fresh way of
considering the way pupils spoke about their behavior. Findings of these studies
confirmed that politeness was important in the classroom interaction. Maintaining
politeness in the class was a good strategy to reach effective classroom
interaction.
De Vito (2012), stated that politeness was an approach to look at
relationship since politeness was a major factor in growing, sustaining, and
nurturing relationships. Politeness theory helped elucidate the process of
relationship development or deterioration. Therefore, this study addressed the
14
issue of the politeness particularly in au pairs and host parent’s relationships in a
semi-structured sociolinguistics interview.
DEPENDENT VARIABLE
According to Oyserman & Destin (2010) the social context led that some
children perceive certain types of behavior in spending time on home works and
other activities. This study provided how academic achievement relevant to their
personal goals.
Marchant & Anderson (2012) referred to that one of the important barriers
in American classrooms was once the interference of the educating and
mastering process; this included student behavior, the frequency of hassle
behaviors in the school room and its impact on the student’s personal learning as
well as the average class’s learning.
Sanchez (2013) justified in his study that the student- respondents tested
that their getting to know behaviors were a lot affected by using their self-
concept, relationship with others and peer and their studying surroundings where
the curriculum and extra-curricular things to do were conducted.
On the study presented by Widiadnya (2018) they found that there were
some implications of using politeness strategies in teaching and learning
process. The implications discussed from theory of cooperative principle.
Efficient communication interaction in the process of teaching and learning was
the first implication. The teacher and students complete the efficient
communication in teaching and learning by way of interaction in communication
15
by using bald on record as the strategy for creating the most effective
communication in the classroom interaction.

METHODOLOGY
This chapter presented the research design, setting of the study, subjects
of the study, research instrument, research procedure and the statistical
treatment of data gathered relevant to the _________TITLE_______________
Research Design
( 100 – 150 WORDS)
Research design is the framework of research methods and techniques
chosen by a researcher. The design allows researchers to hone in on research
methods that are suitable for the subject matter and set up their studies up for
success.
The design of a research topic explains the type of research
(experimental, survey, correlational, semi-experimental, review) and also its sub-
type (experimental design, research problem, descriptive case-study).

Research Instrument
The researcher used questionnaire on this study. The survey instrument
was divided into three parts the profile of the respondents, the polite strategies
and behavioral development.
Part I – Profile of the Respondents gathered information on type of family,
economic status and the type of discourse. Part II and Part III consisted of
statements that measured the extent of the senior high school students’ polite

Research Procedure
The title proposal was checked, evaluated and revised to maintain
conformity on the subject of research. The questionnaire-checklist which aimed
to draw out proper responses of the responses in line with the objectives of the
study was constructed, analyzed and validated in order to ensure the accuracy of
the responses that were elicited.
The researcher obtained an endorsement letter addressed to the
principals of the ten (10) selected schools in order to be permitted to gather data
from the target respondents. Upon approval, the researcher personally visited the
school to request for the permission to administer the questionnaires to the
randomly selected senior high school students the subject and respondents of
the study.
The gathered information was then classified, encoded and tabulated in
order to attain the objective and purpose of this study.
Statistical Treatment of Data
Descriptive statistical analysis was utilized in analyzing the data gathered
from the respondents. In order to present the data on the profile of the
respondents, frequency, percentage and rank were used. Moreover, weighted
mean, interpretation and rank were utilized to describe the result of the
respondents’ profile.
26
Furthermore, Chi-squared Test was applied to examine the relationship
between the polite strategies as well as the behavioral development of the senior
high school students.

Most of respondents, belong to nuclear family, with a type of discourse
which is Tagalog and with middle socio - economic status classification.
Almost 67.41 % of the Senior High School respondents belonged to
nuclear type of family. A nuclear family had two parents (in a first-time marriage)
and their biological children. This type of family was commonly referred to as the
normal or model family. They had been often seen as thrifty, stable, economically
secure, and happy.
As previously stated elsewhere above, the majority of the respondents
were from 4th District of Laguna, where the discourse used is Tagalog. Therefore,
this mirrored that the majority of respondents were completely grew up in Luzon
were Tagalog is the mother tongue.
Out of the total survey participants, 84.12% where in the middle socio -
economic classification. They were able to live in simple and modest living. Other
than the family income, that fitted to everyday life, their parents could not have
availed other financial resources.
Lareau (2011) noted that socio-economic status that was reflected and
was measured by the social and economic status of family members.
However, Beckmeyer (2019) emphasized that varied across family
structures, suggesting that practices had different effectiveness depending on
family context.

Respondents were habitually in saying thank you whenever they received
something from others. In addition, they unceasingly treated his classmates with
respect, by mean of normally uttering sorry to the mistakes they made to their
peer. Moreover, they consistently followed the command or request of their
teachers, especially in regards to wearing proper uniform and haircut. However,
they occasionally performed well in doing seat works and assignments
independently. They rarely used proper etiquette in dealing on the mistakes of
others. And yet, it was difficult for them to develop constructive criticisms based
on the performance showed by their teachers and classmates.
It indicated that the senior high school students developed proper
politeness strategies toward other. They were easily responded to their peer
whenever they received favor or good deed. They easily reacted or took action
when they hurt the feeling of others and considerate to their teachers. But being
considerate with the feeling of their peer they tended to hold back them self to
give praise or comment to other, afraid that their peer might misinterpret their
words. They didn’t know how to react when other hurt them. They were being
mindful on what other thought of them, so they followed common politeness
strategies. In terms of school situation, most of them followed rules that very
visible to the authority, like wearing proper uniform and haircut. On the contrary,
most of them had the less self-motivation in school related chores like doing
projects and assignments without the help of their peer. In some cases, this

could be a social influence that might involve agreeing with or acting like the
majority of particular people in a group, or that it might involve behaving in a
certain way in order to be perceived as normal by the group.
As pointed out by Birner (2013), being polite was not simply as a matter of
saying please and thank you. Generally, being polite was taking others feeling
which make others feel comfortable and using appropriate linguistic choices to
create relationship with others.

The respondents commonly appreciated any materials received from
someone else and constantly appreciated whatever performance showed by
fellow classmates. They also quickly expressed sincerest apology when making
mistakes and consistently learned to ask question in a nice way. They regularly
followed the established rules in school. On the contrary, respondents rarely
complied with someone asking a favor or follow the request of other people with
joy. They also seldom expressed their feelings (i.e. anger) appropriately.
The students much prepared to receive favors from their peer rather than
to extend and give favor to them. They were mindful of the awkwardness of
giving favors, for simple reason of it was important to them to consider what they
were asking and whom would be the best person to asked. They were more
apologetic but rarely showed their negative feeling. Being apologetic could bring
different significance in human behavior, it could show recognition and value for
broken rules and minimized the negative perception of others to a person. But
over apology could be a sign of serious issue. By being apologetic they thought
they displayed themselves as a nice and caring person, but actually it sending
the message that they were lack of confidence and were ineffectual. In such
instances, clearly, they're not fine but retreated into themselves to avoid a
dialogue, they feared might end up making them feel worse. It was not hard for
Paete Science and Business College

them to followed school rules and regulation but it was difficult for them to
complied school academic requirements. Today, the ideas of students were if
their classmate will do, they will also do. If their classmate cannot do, they also
cannot do. It is a matter of social conformity.
Sanchez (2013) made it clear, that student’s getting to know behaviors
were a lot affected by using their self- concept, relationship with others and peer
and their studying surroundings.

The variables with regards to the relationship between the respondent’s
profile and the extent of their politeness strategies were not significant.
Type of family, discourse and social classes had no greater impact in
one’s politeness strategies. Politeness strategies were formed as a result of
some kind of learning experiences students underwent through. This was a
representation, which also had a part to play the teaching and learning situation.
The politeness strategies as an intention were sustained as a matter of personal
and willed compliance. In this point of view, the learners had drawn from their
peer’s disposition to formed their own politeness strategies, which affected their
behavior. Politeness strategies were considered as a tool to improve their
performance and self-confidence.
Paete Science and Business College
J.P. Rizal Street, Paete, Laguna 34
Justified by Wijayanto (2014), that there was no valid proof to believe
about the influence of behavior. According to him, attitude was a hypothetical
concept abstracted from the totality of a person’s feelings, beliefs and behavioral
intentions regarding an object. In addition, Geyer (2008) saw politeness as one of
the resources which participant drew upon when constructing their sense of
identity.

It is clearly indicated on the result of the study, that the respondent’s
profile had no relevance in their level of behavioral development.
Students were convinced that the view of their real behavior were not their
home environment, discourse used and social economic status. Most behavior
developed during the person interaction with his peer or group. One’s behavioral
development could be affected by the politeness he receiving from society.
Behavior execution is largely automatic or even reflexive, requiring the individual
to make a non-deliberate decision.
Pakzadian (2012), pointed out that politeness as types of behavior that
established and continued comity. It was supported by Senowarsito (2013), he
stated that politeness was an initial step to develop positive personal and social
attitudes. Through discreet used of politeness, one could soften the language
behavior in any speech events in turn.

It was viewed that the extent of politeness strategies and level of
respondent’s behavioral development was highly significant, meaning, the
greater the politeness strategies of the students the better their behavioral
development. Politeness strategies had great impact to behavioral
development of the students and vice versa. Being respectful show good manner
and politeness can have reciprocated with treatment from another person.
Person, relationship and activities were describing with respect to how they act
with others, for sometimes it is just a set of life developing circumstances. As a
result, a person behavioral development was knowing where to stand in any
situation to gain more politeness to others.
As De Vito (2012) stated, that politeness was an approach to look at
relationship since politeness was a major factor in growing, sustaining, and
nurturing relationships. Politeness theory helped elucidate the process of
relationship development or deterioration.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter discusses the summary of findings from previous chapter. It
also presents the conclusion out of the finding and given necessary suggestions
or recommendations for future studies related to this research work.
Summary of Findings
The following were the findings drawn out of the study:
1. Majority of respondents, belonged to nuclear family, wherein, tagalog were
the most commonly used discourse and with middle socio - economic
status classification.
2. Respondents were generally vocal in saying thank you in receiving
something. In addition, they frequently treated his classmates with
respect, by mean of consistently speaking sorry to the mistakes made to
others. Moreover, they habitually followed the command or request of their
teachers, especially in regards to wearing proper uniform and haircut.
However, they occasionally performed well in doing seat works and
assignments independently. They variously used proper etiquette in
dealing on the mistakes of others. And yet, it was difficult for them to
develop constructive criticisms based on the performance showed by their
teachers and classmates.
3. The respondents commonly appreciated any materials received from
someone else and appreciated whatever performance showed by fellow
classmates. They also quickly expressed sincerest apology when making

mistakes and learned to ask question in a nice way. They unrestrictedly
followed the established rules in school. Conversely, respondents rarely
complied with someone asking a favor or follow the request of other
people with joy. They also seldom expressed their feelings (i.e. anger)
appropriately.
4. Type of family, discourse and social classes had no greater impact in
one’s politeness strategies. Most politeness strategies developed during
the person interaction with his peer or group.
5. It was clearly indicated on the result, that the respondent’s profile had no
relevance in their level of behavioral development. Students were
convinced that the view of their real behavior was not their home
environment, discourse used and social economic status. The behavior as
an intention was sustained as a matter of personal and willed compliance.
6. It was analyzed on the result, that the extent of politeness strategies and
level of respondent’s behavioral development was highly significant, it is
implied that the greater the politeness strategies of the students the better
their behavioral development. Politeness strategies had great impact to
behavioral development of the students and vice versa
Conclusions
From the summary findings, the following conclusions are deduced:
1. Type of family, discourse and social classes had no greater impact in
one’s politeness strategies. Most politeness strategies developed during
the person interaction with his peer or group. It could define or learn to his

social interaction with other people. It’s a matter of abiding interest and
essential preoccupation.
2. The personal behavior was difficult to sustain and carry through. Students
were express their awareness in behavior as is of being able to live the
part and of being at loss to what to do next. Self-understanding and
awareness, function as a trigger to develops one’s personal behavior.
3. Senior high school student’s behavior greatly affected by their politeness
strategies and their social interaction to others as well how they treat other
with respect. Some cultural basis considered politeness as showing
consideration to others, using tact, and practicing social norms were
qualities of being polite. But different culture had different social norms.
Therefore, what was considered polite in one society could sometimes be
eccentric or rude in another social context.
Recommendations
In view of the findings of the study, and the conclusions drawn, the
following recommendations are given.
1. The school administrators should recommend their teachers and students
to use politeness strategies, and be aware of the politeness strategies of
every individual. A rewards system or recognition must be applied to those
who are polite. School policies in regards to Politeness Strategies must be
formulated. Proper implementation of the said policies must be strictly
observed.
Paete Science and Business College
J.P. Rizal Street, Paete, Laguna 39
2. Headed by the Guidance Counselor or Coordinator, an advocacy
committee can be created, that will promote the awareness and
understanding of politeness strategies leading to self – behavioral
development.
3. Teachers must encourage the students to use and learn more about
politeness strategies in school. They should come up programs, activities
and strategies to value politeness of students. Politeness strategies
should integrate to everyday lesson.
4. Parents should practice and initiate the politeness all the time. They
should be their children’s role model. They had to be aware and strict in
implementing politeness strategies at home, even when their children still
young, so that when the children grow it will become part of their
behavioral development.
5. Students must be aware of using and developing of their politeness
strategies. They needed to demonstrate sincere politeness strategies and
avoid split of the tongue and force of nature politeness.
6. A similar study on politeness strategies may be conducted using different
context and a large number of respondents to ascertain validity of the
results of this study.
