Experiment 6 Static Routing

The document outlines Activity No. 6 for the ECE08L Data Communications Lab at Southern Luzon State University, focusing on configuring static IP routing. It details objectives, an introduction to Cisco IOS, and a step-by-step procedure for setting up network devices and establishing communication between networks. The activity aims to enhance understanding of static routing and network configuration using Cisco equipment.

I. OBJECTIVES
• To communicate between networks not connected directly with the router.
• To get in depth knowledge of static routing.

II. INTRODUCTION
The Cisco IOS was created to deliver network services and enable networked applications. It runs on most Cisco
routers and, on an ever-increasing number of Cisco Catalyst switches, such as the Catalyst 2950. Some of the important
things that the Cisco router IOS software is responsible for include
• Carrying network protocols and functions.
• Connecting high-speed traffic between devices.
• Adding security to control access and stop unauthorized network use.
• Providing scalability for ease of network growth and redundancy.
• Supplying network reliability for connecting to network resources.

You can access the Cisco IOS through the console port of a router, from a modem into the auxiliary (or Aux) port, or even
through Telnet. Access to the IOS command line is called an EXEC session.

III. PROCEDURE
1. Place two switches from the network devices menu.
2. Now select connections in the bottom left corner and select console wire in the sub menu.
3. Now join the PC to the router using the selected wire.
4. Select the copper straight through wire and join one switch and router with each other and join two PC with the
switch.
5. Do it for the other router as well.
6. Add NM-8A/S module in both the routers.
7. Connect both the routers with each other using the serial DCE wire
8. Click on the pc and go to desktop and terminal
9. In the terminal window write enable and configure terminal commands.
10. Change the host name by hostname command.
11. Change the IP address for the fast Ethernet port connected with the switch and do the same for the serial port.
12. Similarly do the settings of the second router and change IP address accordingly. After this now start routing by
using the IP route command.
13. Now we are done with the routing however there is one last step we have to configure the clock for serial
connection.
14. On the side which shows a clock go to the terminal and set clock by using clock rate command and set it to 64000.
15. Send a message from one PC to another to test if the network established was successful or not.
