CLASS: SENIOR ONE

2 HOURS

INSTRUCTIONS: Attempt all items

ITEM 1

You school has promised to award the best three students; Jovia, Jaliah and
Juma in the 100-metre race with 126 counter books altogether. Each counter
book costs UGX12, 000 in the market. Jovia will receive 42 counter books in
base 6. Jaliah will receive 36 counter books in base 8. Juma will receive the
share of his counter books in base 10. For accountability purposes, the school
needs to know the amount of money to be spent on buying the books for each
student.

Task:

As a competent mathematics student, help the school know the amount of


money it will spend on each student.

ITEM 2

The time taken by 6 athletes (students) to complete a race in a certain school


running competition organized by the sports master were recorded in the table
below.

athletes without fear or favour.

TASK

a) Help the sports master identify and distribute these awards among these
athletes.
b) If another athlete was to run and finish in 60 seconds, which and whose
position would he displace according to the information above? State
why?

ITEM 3

In the inter-house competitions of hope primary school, a house gains 3 points


on wining any sports item,1.5 points for a draw and loses 0.5 points for a loss
in any of the sports items. Each point gained is awarded UGX 950 and the
overall winning house is awarded UGX 35,100 in addition to the money earned
from the points. The results from these competitions were summarized in a
suitable table shown below.
