Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Build the Turbine
Cut the plastic water bottle in half horizontally.
Use the bottom half as the housing for your turbine.
Attach plastic spoons around the wooden skewer in a circular
pattern (like a water wheel). Cut handles if needed.
Glue the spoons securely at angles to catch water better.
2. Set Up the Generator
Connect the wooden skewer with the turbine blades through small
holes in the bottle sides, so it can spin freely.
Attach the DC motor to the side of the bottle, aligning it with the
skewer.
Use a rubber band, string, or gear to connect the motor shaft and
turbine axle so the turbine spins the motor.
3. Wiring the Circuit
Connect wires from the motor terminals to the LED.
Use alligator clips for easy connection.
If you have a multimeter, connect it to the circuit to measure
voltage.
4. Test It with Water
Place your turbine under a stream of water (from a sink, jug, or
bottle elevated on a stand).
The water flow should spin the turbine, which spins the motor,
generating electricity to light the LED.
How It Works
Water has kinetic energy due to movement.
The spinning turbine converts kinetic energy into mechanical
energy.
The DC motor acts as a generator and converts mechanical energy
into electrical energy.
The LED lights up, demonstrating electricity generation.
