Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School, an institute par excellence

THE SCHOOL AT A GLANCE
Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School was established by Buxi Jagabandhu Education
Society consisting of a few renowned, committed philanthropists, educationists and social activists of
the locality called B.J.B. Nagar, in the temple city of Bhubaneswar. The school has been named after
Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Bhramarbar Ray, an eminent freedom fighter of Odisha. The School came
into existence on 15th January 1974, with a modest beginning of 4 students and one teacher. Now it has
grown to a remarkable height and is considered to be one of the premier Senior Secondary
Educational Institutions of the State. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education
(CBSE), Delhi.
The Motto of the School is mee efJeÐee ³ee efJecegkeÌle³es (SA VIDYA YA VIMUKTAYE) and its guiding
principle is “Let Learning be a Joy and Teaching a Pleasure”.
Over the years the school has developed a huge educational infrastructure for classes from
Lower Nursery to Class XII (Science and Commerce) with the best possible facilities and provisions to
cater to the latest requirements of more than 3,400 students and 140 teachers. It extends all possible
care to nurture the hidden talents of its learners. The School has been functioning successfully with
the concerted efforts of the Management, the Principal, the learned faculty and responsible parents.
A four storeyed building has been built as an extension block for Nursery to Standard III, to the
extreme left of the main building. The block opened its doors on 16 June, 2004 and has been running

very successfully.
It accommodates classes from Lower Nursery to Std. III in two shifts. It has painted airy
classrooms and well equipped activity rooms with smart board facilities for the tiny tots. It has a well-
ventilated, spacious Reading Hall to facilitate the students and teachers as well. A beautiful children’s
park and an accomodious assembly ground add to the beauty of its ambience. Latest educational
techniques are implemented to make learning stress free and an enjoyable experience for the young
inmates.
The school has added a multi storeyed +2 (Science & Commerce) block for the students of
Class XI and XII with all sorts of modern facilities.

School is rooted in the belief that the student must be an acti ve participant in the educational process. The

emotional and spiritual. Our efforts are directed at preparing the students to be disciplined, fearless,

punishment. We affirm our commitment to build up the importance of personality, identity and
individuality of every child.
2. The School endeavors to inculcate in each child, the pride of being an Indian, and love for the cultural
heritage of India. Our aim is to inspire our children to respect the national traditions, values and ideals.
3. Every child can develop fully, only if he/ she is proficient in his/ her mother tongue. Though the medium
of instruction is English, the mother tongue of the child is given much importance to enable him/ her to
understand and appreciate the ethnic culture of the state and nation as well. Hence, Odia is a subject in
our school curriculum.
4. All efforts are made to establish an open environment in the school administration. The holistic
development of every student is the main aim of education. And this is possible at BJEMS due to the
collaborative effort of the smart and dynamic School Management Committee, a committed Principal, an
excellent academic body, a dedicated administrative and Office Staff, a caring support staff, supportive

During the two years of pre-school education, children explore and understand the physical world around them
through various activity oriented methods. Special emphasis is laid on muscular development, co-ordination of
hand and eye, control of limbs, sensory perceptions and social skills.
EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION (ECCE)
The NEP-2020 identifies that over 85% of a child’s brain develops by the age of 6. It is therefore of
utmost importance that every child has access to quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).
Learning at the elementary level in BJEMS is enjoyable. Art, Stories, Dance and Song are
incorporated in the curriculum. Children explore and understand the physical world around them through
various play based and activity oriented methods. The focus is on foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
Special emphasis is laid on muscular development, sensory perceptions and social skills.
THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
EXAMINATION PATTERN
The CCE system of assessment and Evaluation has been abolished from Class- I to X. At
present the entire process of assessments, tests and examinations is strictly based upon the new
guidelines prescribed by the CBSE with effect from the academic year 2017-18.
CBSE NEW GENERATION SCHOOLS
Our School has been awarded with the tagline “CBSE New Generation Schools” which gives
the school a separate identity from the other schools. Our school now offers NSQF based vocational
course namely I.T. at Secondary level.
DIGITAL SMART CLASS
In order to enhance the academic excellence of the school, Digital Smart Class was introduced in
the school from the session 2013-14. All class rooms from LKG to Std.- XII are equipped with digital
smart board. Tata class edge, a subsidiary of Tata Group with a nation wide reputation is managing
the logistics and operations of the Digital Smart Class.
INTRODUCTION OF YOGA EDUCATION CLASSES
Keeping in view the importance of ‘Yoga’ in school education, the esteemed school has
introduced ‘Yoga’ class as an integral part of the school curriculum. The classes are held for the
students between the age groups 8 to 16. (Std. IV to X). A teacher having expertise in the subject has
been appointed to educate, train and prepare the young students to grow up as happy, healthy and
disciplined human beings over coming all the possible challenges and obstacles in life.
“SOFT SKILLS” DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME :
A soft skills development programme is being pursued by the school for the last seven
years. Special compulsory classes are held every week in which students participate in various
activity modules like - Debates, Elocutions, Extempore speeches, JAM, Panel/ Group Discussions,
story telling / enactment, Recitation, Conversations (Telephonic / General) Mock Interviews, Quiz,
News Reporting, Commentaries, Dramatics and many more.
Three Soft Skill Trainers are in charge of this programme which embraces all the sections
from Std I to VIII. This value based programme aims at enhancing the students’ communication skills,
which give vent to their creative and innate abilities and tap their latent talents. This pioneering effort
has helped in producing a confident, skillful, positive and vivacious crop of BJEM students.
AUDIO -VISUAL AIDS
The school has an Audio Room, slide projectors, overhead projectors, tape recorders,
colour television, VCR, computers with multimedia and internet facilities, etc. to enhance the
effectiveness of modern teaching learning process.
COMPUTER CENTRE
The introduction of Computer Science in school has become an integral part of education.
Our air conditioned computer Lab-I, II, III & IV have adequate number of computers with Multimedia
and Internet facilities. Computer courses are available for students from Std. I to XII.
LIBRARY
Our school has a well stocked library staffed adequately to keep the library in good order and
also to guide the students during their library periods to make the best use of the library. The stock is
constantly expanded and updated to provide meaningful reference materials to the readers.
All have access to the library, which follows the Dewey system of classification.
There is a unique section ‘oversight book’ for the use of the students of Std. IX to XII. This
section contains supplementary reading materials like parallel textbooks, reference books, maps
and examination papers of previous years.
There is a section marked for teachers. There is also a video Film Library of informative and
educational films, catering to the needs of different age groups.
A mini Library has also been set up in the +2 Block to specifically cater to the requirements of
the students of Std. XI and XII. This provides students an easy access to the stock of reference books,
supplementary books, sample question papers, magazines etc. that can be used during leisure
period/ games period or arrangement classes etc.
LABORATORIES
The school has adequately equipped laboratories in Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Science with well-planned infrastructure and instruments to
accommodate 40 students at the same time. These are properly maintained by experienced
Laboratory Assistants supported by attendants.
The school also has a fully equipped English Language laboratory with modern teaching
tools such as audio visual aids, computer etc. to deal with the listening and speaking aspects of the
curriculum.
ATAL TINKERING LAB (ATL) : OUR NEW DIMENSION
Our esteemed school is now a proud member of the Atal Tinkering Lab Community. Atal
Innovation Mission (AIM) under the aegis of NITI Aayog has been establishing ATLs across India to
create scientific temper and cultivate the spirit of curiosity and innovation among young minds to
“Cultivate 1 Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators”. With the setting up of an appropriately
designed and well equipped ATL the students of BJEM School now have a canvas of their own to
ideate emerging technologies. The lab will enable the students venture into 21st Century skills such
as Design and Demonstration Thinking, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and much more.
INTEGRATED CLASS FOR +2 SCIENCE
“Success is when preparation meets opportunity.” And that’s what BJEM believes in.
Conscious work, hard efforts and strong ethics are the pillars of a successful student.
Keeping this mission in mind, BJEM takes pride in introducing FIIT JEE classes for class XI &
XII. FIIT JEE- an integrated course for +2 Science students guides them to appear JEE-Mains and JEE
Advance with the pinnacle programme with proper fooding and ledging, we believe in facilitating the
flow of information to infinity.
CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
An array of extra curricular and co-curricular activities compliment the academic course
which enrich the life of the school community and help the students develop physically, spiritually,
emotionally and socially.
Physical Education is given as much importance as academics. Pupils are provided with
ample opportunities to play a wide variety of games both indoor and outdoor during the school
hours as per the provision in time table and beyond the school hours for special skills under the
supervision of trained Physical Education Teachers and coaches appointed for the purpose.
The Student Community from Lower Nursery to Std.- XII is divided into six Houses namely
‘Abhimanyu, Arjuna, Dhruva, Ekalavya, Karna and Shravan. Each House has a captain and a vice-
captain and the faculty act as House co-ordinators and Deputy Co-ordinators to look after the
general progress of the House in various areas. Since all activities are held on House-basis, House
loyalty is the base of all achievements.
A regular record of students’ participation in intra and inter House activities is maintained
and points are awarded to the respective House, which contribute to determine the champion
house at the end of the year.
l The Annual Inter-House Athletic and Sports Meet is organised and certificates of Merit,
medals and trophies are awarded to the worthy participants. In addition to this, Annual
Inter-House Tournaments are held in major games like Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Kho-
Kho, Badminton etc. to enhance the spirit of sportsmanship.
l Inter School Tournaments / Matches - Every year our students participate in various inter
school tournaments like, chess, football, cricket, basketball, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, Volleyball
etc. and bring laurels to our school.
n EXHIBITIONS AND COMPETITIONS :
The School encourages and inspires the students to make the best use of their interest, skill, time,
energy and knowledge by participating in Exhibitions on Science, Social studies, Mathematics,
Languages, Art & Craft and Games and Sports. An Inter Disciplinary Exhibition cum
Demonstration and Annual Literary and Co-scholastic activity competitions are held every year.
Prizes and Awards are given away to the students for best display and demonstration of their
exhibits.
n ECO CLUB AND HERITAGE CLUB
The school runs two active clubs- the Eco-club and the Heritage club which helps students to
develop their organisational & leadership skills through activities like study tours & pleasure
trips, exhibitions, projects, rallies and drives, film shows, group discussions, talks etc. Regular
trips are organised to the museums, Science Park, Regional Science Centre, Planetarium,
Botanical Garden for a learning experience.
n SCIENCE CLUB
The School has also introduced Science Club which will help students to showcase their inherent
scientific skill. Their Science club activities and regular interaction with the highly experienced
members will widen their thoughts and curiosity. It will also promote the scientific temperament
and sharpen their creativity, originality, competitiveness critical thinking and problem solving
ability. It further aims to foster genuine interest in science and scientific activities and will
prepare them for various outside school competitions at State/ National level.
n RAMANUJAN MATHEMATICS CLUB
The Mathematics Club has been set up in Std.-III to create natural love for Mathematics and to
bring out hidden mathematical talents of the young students. It will provide them a platform for
“Mathematical Modeling” workshops, maths logic based events and contests to hone their
potential and reasoning skill.
n SPORTS CLUB
To increase participation by providing a range of opportunities, support and resources to allow
for an inclusive and sociable sporting community, school has taken initiative to introduce sports
club, which aims to develop healthy sporting habit among the students. It will also take care to
infuse the discipline and instill the value systems.
n DEBATERS’ AND QUIZZERS’ CLUB
The Debate Club and Quiz Club are 2 other pivotal initiatives undertaken to help prepare the
young minds to face the ever changing competitive world. The debate club will enable students to
develop sound and logical arguments, confidence, oratory skill, critical thinking, research skills
and to become confident speakers.
The Quizzers’ Club will help students become more informed about political and global affairs
and update their knowledge in various fields like academics, general knowledge, analytical
abilities, quantitative reasoning etc.
n DREAMER’S CLUB
With the sole objective to encourage and provide the students with holistic development, the
“Dreamer’s Club” has been established for the students of classes XI and XII specifically. The club
members meet once in a week where they are engaged in various co-curricular activities like
tours and visits, Group Discussion, Essay, Song, Skit, painting, Human Life Skill, Extempore and
Art etc. Dreamer’s club of BJEM School materialises the dream of students making them
confident and well balanced to face the world beyond.
n STUDENT LEADERS :
The school is quite alive to its responsibility of inculcating leadership qualities among the
students. The students are trained to shoulder positions of responsibility. The class monitors
perform duties assigned to them by the class teachers. School prefects and House prefects work
in various school committees, hold periodical meetings and suggest the Principal about the
welfare measures to be taken for the students Community. The School Captain and Vice-Captain,
the House Captains and the other prefects are appointed by the Principal amongst those who
show qualities of leadership and command a great deal of respect from their fellow students, and
they form a very valuable part of the school community.
n SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
The school conducts the morning assembly daily in an exclusive manner. It is a congregation of
the staff and the students where, besides prayer and patriotic songs, relevant information is
passed to all concerned. The daily news headlines and school news are read out. Individual
speakers among the students and the teachers deliberate on various informative and educative
topics. Other activities include conversational English and open house quiz. This fosters a
competitive spirit and gives wide exposure to the students.
This also provides a platform to observe various important Days as earmarked by the CBSE or the
government, to create awareness among the students about the significance of such days or
weeks.
n ANNUAL DAY
In the Annual day celebration, huge participation of students in various colourful cultural
programmes is encouraged to give them a strong school feeling and to make them feel
responsible for bringing a good name to the school through the presentation of their expertise.
The Annual Day also brings out the latent talent in the students and teachers and helps them to be
good hosts.

Contests for the students from Primary to Senior Secondary level to give them a higher

The school has introduced Awards named ‘BJEM BLUE’ (Std.- IX) & O’ Little Wood Award (Std.- III)
to honour talented students with extra ordinary performances in the field of academics and
extracurricular activities. In addition to this, various Memorial Awards and Awards for Best
Student, Best Scout & Guide, Best N.C.C. Cadet (in Army, Air & Naval wings) boys & girls are given
away to appreciate the outstanding achievements of the students in different categories both
academics and non-academics.

Students of Std. VIII with the motto, ‘Unity & Discipline’ opt for a two years’ training in National
Cadet Corps. They may enroll themselves in the Army wing for Boys and Girls or the Air-wing for
Boys and Navy wing for Boys and girls to remain available in all readiness to be of any assistance
to any individual/ administration at the time of need. Their excellence in the respective field
enables them not only to be part of the state level parade and functions like Independence Day,
Republic Day, NCC Day etc. but also to be adjudged the ‘Best Cadet’ at the national level.
n SCOUT / GUIDE
Scouting and Guiding are optional for boys & girls of classes VI to X and in fact it makes the
student a complete individual in every respect. Besides, it benefits the students to gain
weightage during the admission into colleges, and also enrich them with various life skills.
n YOUTH RED CROSS
The children of our school take active part in Junior Red Cross programmes and bring a difference
to their personal endeavours. Recently, the Youth Red Cross has also been initiated which will
involve the senior students and it is the first of its kind to intr oduce the Youth Red Cross in any
CBSE Schools of Odisha.
SCHOOL CANTEEN
The school Canteen serves delicious snacks, tea, fruit juice etc. at reasonable price on cash
payment during the break times.
THE SCHOOL CLINIC
The school has a small but well equipped clinic under the care of a medical officer. First aid
dressings for all kinds of wounds and sprains are done for the children. Once in a year, routine medical
check up is carried out for all the children in the school. The height and weight measurements are also
recorded at the end of each term every year.
SCHOOL CYCLE STAND
The School has a permanent cycle stand. Students who come to school by bicycles are required
to keep their cycle properly locked at the cycle stand.
Parents must ensure that their wards travel to & from school in a safe manner and follow the guidelines
issued from time to time by the Road Transport Authorities, Govt. of India/ Odisha as well as the CBSE.

ADMISSION AND WITHDRAWAL
ADMISSION
1. The Child must have completed three years and six months and should be less than 5 years as on
31st March of the year of Admission in Lower Nursery i.e. 2024-25 born between 31.03.2019 to
30.09.2020 (Both days inclusive).
2. Applications in prescribed Forms are invited for Admission into (LOWER NURSERY) class of the
ensuing academic session 2024-25 from 03.01.2024 to 18.01.2024 during Bank hours on
payment of Rs. 1000/-. The duly filled in application must be submitted latest by 18.01.2024
between 10.30 am to 1.30 pm in the School Academic Counter (Gate No.-2).
3. Preference will be given to siblings, children of School Alumni & proximity to school.
4. Admission fee for L.N. ` 82,500 to be paid at the time of admission along with One month tuition
fee (for the month of April 2024.)
5. All students are required to open an account with Odisha Gramya Bank, BJEM School extension
counter, BJB Nagar Branch for payment of tuition fee etc.
6. The List of text books and copies for Lower Nursery students will be intimated in due course of time.
7. Admission into other classes will depend upon availability of seats.
8. Students of Std.-X of our school will be automatically promoted to Std.- XI without any Admission
Fee subject to fulfillment of the eligibility criteria on the basis of marks secured in CBSE Board Exam.
IMPLEMENTATION OF RTE ACT
As per the RTE Act of 2009, 25% of the total capacity of 240 seats in Lower Nursery will be
reserved for children belonging to disadvantaged group (SC/ST/SEBC and homeless
category), weaker section (BPL Card holder) as recommended by the Govt.
For admission to the remaining seats, selection will be done on random basis. There shall be
no test or interviews for any child / parent falling within or out side the categories.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
a) Birth certificate from the Municipality or Panchayat will be accepted.
b) Residence Proof (Aadhaar / DL/Voter ID/ Electricity Bill/ Telephone Bill/ Water Bill /
Gas Card) in the name of ward’s parent. (Recent document to be submitted wherever applicable).
c) As per the direction of Govt. of India, Aadhaar No. is to be submitted at the time of admission.
d) Transfer Certificate from the previous school is a ‘must’ for admission in Std. II and above.
The school issuing such certificates should be recognised by the Government or Board.
The Certificate issued must be countersigned by the District Inspector of Schools or Circle
Inspector of School or the Director of Public Instruction of Schools.
e) Attested copies of mark sheet showing the performance of the student in the previous
class should be submitted along with the application.
f) Two stamp size recent colour photographs of the student.
g) Money receipt of Admission Fee should be attached to the application form.
h) Photocopy of BPL, SEBC, SC, ST certificates should be attached to the application form
(where applicable) which must be obtained from Bhubaneswar jurisdictions only.
GENERAL RULE
1. The school reserves the right to admit or reject any student without assigning any reason.
The decision of the Principal shall be abiding and final.
2. English is the medium of instruction right from Lower Nursery. Odia and Hindi are taught
from Std. - I and Std.- II respectively.
3. The enrolment form and the other necessary papers must be filled in with due care by
parent/ guardian. The name and date of birth of the student once recorded in the enrolment
form and school admission register cannot be changed later. An undertaking to this effect
will have to be signed with the enrolment form.
WITHDRAWAL
1. The Principal reserves the right to ask for the withdrawal of any student who has proved
immune to correction.
2. Request for the withdrawal of a pupil must be made in writing by his / her parents
accompanied by a remittance of requisite fees for the issue of the School Leaving Certificate /
Transfer Certificate.
3. All the dues have to be cleared before a School Leaving Certificate is issued. No question of
refund of any dues / fees of a child will arise at the time of withdrawal once getting
admission into any class.
4. The student shall be suspended or expelled from the school on the following grounds.
a) The name of the student will be struck off the rolls after continuous absence for ten days
without information. He/ she may be readmitted as per rules and the discretion of the
Principal. Students are required to secure 75% of the total attendance during a session to
be eligible to appear in their final examination. The decision of the Principal shall be final
and binding in this regard.
b) Indiscipline, assaulting fellow students, mishandling school appliances, carrying/ bursting
crackers, stealing and leaving the school without permission during the school hours.
c) Non payment of dues
d) On failing twice in the same class
e) At any time, if the authorities firmly believe that such withdrawal is necessary in the
interest of the school.
MODE OF PAYMENT & BANK FACILITY
Payment should be made in the Odisha Gramya Bank Extension Counter of B. J. E.M. School, on all Bank
working days from 10.00 A.M. to 2.00 P.M.
All the fees are to be paid preferably through online or non-cash mode, not in cheque or
draft. Fee payment can be made through School ERP i.e. EDUNEXT Parent app using Debit card /

The tuition fees for any month can be paid on or before 15th of the same month without fine.
A fine of ` 10/- will be charged from defaulters after 15th till the end of the month. A fine of ` 20/-
will be charged if the School fees is paid within the next month and ` 30/- if paid within two months (see
the example below for the month of April).

July to September : ` 1000/- (Fine)
If the default continues beyond 6 months, the fine amount shall be Rs. 2000/- in addition
to the arrears till 31st March (end of the session).
1. Admission Fee - ` 82,500/- (For Lower Nursery only)
2. Tuition Fee @ ` 4,050/- P.M. + ` 200/- per month for Smart Class Fee (sum total of ` 4,250/-)
from April 2024 to March 2025 for Lower Nursery.
3. Parents those who are interested to deposit the school fees at a time for the whole year
(i.e. 12 months) in April, will get 4% discount. Discount will be allowed on tuition fee only.
4. For auto deduction of fee from account, an application form is to be submitted to the bank to
that effect at the beginning of every new session (i.e. April). Without this authorisation letter
the bank will treat it as discontinuation of this service and subsequently fine may be levied.

If any of the above mentioned dates happen to be a scheduled holiday, the fee will be accepted
on the next working day.
The fee is payable for all the 12 months of the session for all classes.
FEE CARD
1. In case of offline payment, Fee card must be produced at the counter for every payment.
Please ensure that the necessary entries are duly filled in the fee card by the Bank at the
counter after every payment.
2. Duplicate fee card will be issued on payment of ` 30/-
3. Read the rules and guidelines printed on the fee card.
STUDENTS’ SAFETY INSURANCE SCHEME
Students’ Safety Insurance Policy of the New India Assurance Company Limited has been
introduced by this institution in consultation with the above Insurance Company, for which a sum of
` 3/- is payable by each student towards premium along with the dues of April every year.

EDUNEXT, the new ERP System, is introduced by the school having the following features which
can be accessed by the parents through mobile app.
Profile – The personal details of the students and parents along with the address can be viewed.
Attendance – Parents can check the attendance of their ward on a daily basis or for a month or the
entire academic session as per their requirement.
Homework/Assignments – You can check the Homework/Assignment uploaded by the Teachers.
Communication – Parents may develop hasslefree communication with the Class Teacher/ School.
Notices & Circulars – You may view all the Notices/circulars updated by the school.
School Calendar – You can check the activities planned through Annual School Calendar.
Fee Details – You can see fee details status of due/pending/paid. You can also generate fee receipts
through the mobile app as well.
Remark – Parental access to check the remarks of the teachers about performance/activities of the
student in the school.

STUDENT’S DIARY
The Diary is to be carried to school everyday. It is as good as an entry pass. It is to be used by the
pupils, teachers and parents. Important information, Notices, Practice assignments / HW
given are to be noted down regularly by the students. Parents are required to go through their
child’s school diary regularly as it establishes a strong communication link between the
teachers and the parents, with regard to the quality of work being done by the students, both in
school and at home.
