Item #: SCP-354

Object class: Safe Keter

Containment Procedure: Site-354 has been constructed around

the canyon containing SCP-354. Site-354 is to be manned by 80
personnel at all times. SCP-354 is to be contained within a large
construct located within Site 354 comprised primarily of
hewn granite and steel reinforced concrete measuring 122
meters wide by 640 meters long with walls rising to a height
of 88.3 meters. There must be no less than 200 Foundation
Personnel stationed at site at all times. Foundation protocol
states that all Personnel station site 354 must have had a
minimum of three months of anomalous combat training
under the supervision of Mobile Task Force Nu-7 and have
passed a level 3 cognition screening test before assignment
followed by debriefing from site director Ryan Blanchard.

Description: SCP-354 is a pool of anomalous viscous red liquid

roughly 372 feet in diameter and approximately 2.5 times more dense
than water located on the uninhabited Anangula Island in the
Aleutian Island chain off the western coast of Alaska. The island was
first discovered after a forward observation team of US soldiers
stumbled across it in July of 1943 while on a mission to scout out
any remaining Japanese invasion forces on the island. The soldiers,
unsure of what they had discovered, and assuming it to be some sort
of recessed Japanese bunker, informed their superiors about what
they had discovered. Concerned as to what they may have
uncovered, the US military was authorized to escort a group of 15
FBI agents into the location to evaluate whether or not it would be a
threat to the American people and ultimately the war effort. Its
investigation however was hampered by lack of funds due to most of
them being sent overseas, so a command post was established to
research the strange occurrence while the rest of it was swept under
the rug. Local inuit tribes interviewed about the phenomenon
referred to it as “ᑦHEWᐊᑦEᕐᔅOFᓪOᔅᑦᔅOᐅᓪᔅ” which in their language
translates “The waters of lost souls.” Saying that in past generations,
sacrifices were thrown into the lake to ensure a good year of hunting.
They said that thousands of years ago, a god reached down to earth
and dragged his finger through the rock of the island creating the
gorge, and with a drop of its own blood created the pool as a pact with
the inuit people. The locals warned the FBI about interfering with the
lake as “only bad things will happen if you upset it”. The FBI however
dismissed this as nonsense and nothing more than superstitious urban
legend. It was however discovered that a large metallic structure
resembling a futuristic generator which had been partially destroyed
was embedded in the ground near the lake, bearing signs of being
destroyed by Japanese forces. Along with the heavily mutated bodies
of 7 Chinese citizens and 2 inuit locals that have been captured and
remain unidentified. Strange runes in an unknown language
(presumed to be a lost inuit dialect) were carved into the stone above
the machine. Strangely enough, footprints bearing treads identical to
that of imperial forces were found leading into the lake; no sign of the
troops remains however. It was theorized that Unit-731 had been
testing the lake on POWs when they were forced to flee. A decade later
however, the Foundation surmised that this gorge had not been
discovered by outside forces due to a temporal anomaly created by the
metal machine known only to local tribes, and when destroyed by
retreating Japanese forces, exposed the anomaly. The FBI at this time
in 1943 did not yet have the research capabilities to conduct a full
analysis of the waters but were able to conclude it contained partially
organic materials. Surprisingly no events occurred within the lake
until August 1953, one year after the UIU was formed by J Edgar
Hoover as a direct counteract to GRU-Division P with the islands
proximity to Russia, and took command of the outpost, saying that
“Whatever this was, he believed they could utilize it to give them an
edge over the russians in the nuclear arms race.” and gave the go
ahead to experiment on the lake and gave increased funds to the newly
formed branch of UIU now stationed at the site. It wasn't until 13 ██
gallon drums of wartime chemical waste was dumped into the lake
that things really began to take off. Following this action, a 4.1
magnitude earthquake struck the site and 7 partially decomposed
corpses crawled out of the lake, the UIU (of which only 6 were
stationed onsite at the time) panicked and scrambled for weapons
before they began to fire on the entitys moving towards them to little
effect. In the aftermath, only 1 UIU agent survived and the majority of
the site was burnt to the ground. This is where Foundation steps in, as
it got wind of this UIU containment breach and swooped in to pretty
much seize and contain the site under the pretense of a “chemical
waste spill hazard”. Hoover, despite the unexpected breach, was none
too happy about this and demanded that the UIU keep a presence on
site, to which the Foundation agreed, under the condition that part of
the UIU site funding be directed to the Foundation's own effort at the
lake. Upon re-establishing the site, foundation personnel took samples
of the lake, and with their advanced tech, were able to determine the
fluid to be a mixture of blood, chlorine, water, liquid hydrogen, an
anomalous protein compound, and traces of human skin tissue.
SCP-354 has been additionally observed to be a cognitohazard. Several
staff have reported hearing SCP-354 “calling to them,” being reported
asking for “new hosts,” several personnel have seemingly “responded
to the call” and walked into the lake. Said personnel were never heard
from again. Further investigation pending. Until a conclusive result is
drawn, all personnel are required to take and pass a class 3 cognition
test before being allowed on site. Following the lack of activity from
the lake, it has been downclassed to Safe and funding has been
decreased, due to the lack of reason to pour in such a high amount of
funding for an anomaly which does not require it. Following
incident 354-1-A, object has been reclassified as Keter and
funding has been increased.

Exploration log 354-1

D-237 Is instructed to enter the lake equipped with a level 2 air tight
hazmat suit with an integral regulator, and audio feed is attached to a
1300 meter retractable tether. Researcher Martin Allen is overseeing
the exploration with the assistance of Agent Clark.

Martin: "D-237 please proceed towards the lake."

D-237: "What is this thing? Are you sure this is safe? It looks like a
freaking blood pond."

Martin: "We don't know yet, so that's where you come in, now please
get in the lake."

D-237 mumbles something under his breath before wading into the
lake.

D-237: "THIS IS FREEZING I CAN'T DO THIS!"

Martin: "Calm down, your internal suit heater will trigger

momentarily."

After 15 seconds D-237 stops swearing and claims to be warming up.

Martin rolls his eyes and tells D-237 to proceed.

A splashing sound is heard followed by a rush of passing bubbles as

the D-class submerges.

Martin: "What are you seeing?"

D237: "I probably got 2 feet of visibility down here, but I'm seeing
some sort of weird green blobs in the water."

Martin is about to ask the dclass to describe them when he glances at

the depth gauge which causes him to do a double take.

Martin: "D-237, how deep would you say you are? Can you still see the
surface?"

D-237: "I'd say I've gone under maybe 5 feet, why?"

Martin hesitates before telling him that the readings come back that
he is 3 kilometers underwater despite the fact only 2 meters of cable
have been sent out.

Martin: "I think it's just a bug, now, please describe the green orbs."

D-237 "They look to be about the size of a golf ball maybe, and have
this weird ass pulsation to them, no idea what they are."

Martin instructs the D-class to touch one. Which he hesitantly does.

Upon which it bursts and fluid adheres to his wetsuit.

D-237 "DOC WHAT THE ████ IT JUST EXPLODED! IT'S IN MY

FACE IT'S IN MY FACE!"

Martin tries to calm down the D-class because a gargling screaming is

heard and the sound of tearing fabric after which all audio contact is
lost. An hour later however the Dclass is seen crawling out of the lake.
Martin sends an armed agent to retrieve him. The agent is 10 feet from
the Dclass when it emits a guttural shriek and splits in 2, green fluid
gushing out and forming into 2 new putrid clones (designated
SCP-354-1 and -2 respectively) of the D-class which begin rushing at
Agent Clark. Once SCP-354-1 got within two feet of Agent Clark, it
spontaneously detonated, resulting in the death of the Agent. An
autopsy revealed that the cause of death was not the sudden
overpressure caused by the blast as was expected, but rather by the
absorption of an unknown substance. Attempts to contain SCP-354-2
failed and it was subsequently terminated before it could breach Site
354.

Incident 354-1-A

Date is 2-22-19██.

<Begin Log>
Four security personnel are seen rushing up to the lake, six more
trailing roughly twenty yards behind. The lake seems to be bubbling,
almost as if it was being boiled. A faint noise is heard from the
intercom:
“SCP-354 has been observed to be behaving abnormally. All available
Security Personnel are to investigate.”
As the first personnel get close, two red humanoid beings emerge and
charge at them. The guards open fire and successfully terminate the
two instances. They are now joined by the six other guards, while
twelve more begin to exit from the compound. The ten guards stand
close to the lake, weapons raised. Suddenly, a similar humanoid
being emerges, this time with a flaming body. It charges at the
guards and lights one on fire before being terminated by the
remaining ones. By now a total of 21 guards stand at the lake.
Suddenly, a larger entity emerges, covered in heavy riot armor,
accompanied by one of the inflamed entities and three of the initial
entities. The “riot” charges at the guards and kills five before having
its helmet knocked off and being shot several times in the head. The
four other entities manage to kill another three guards before being
terminated. Suddenly, another entity emerges, resembling the first
one with the exception that it runs on all fours and is colored yellow.
It charges at a guard, stands on its “hind” legs and uses its forelimbs
to snap the guard’s neck. At this point, thirty guards are seen
running to the scene. They all raise their weapons expectantly, but
the lake’s bubbling ceases and no more entities emerge.
<End Log>

Following this incident, two turrets, one positioned close to SCP-354

and one positioned close to the compound exit have been constructed,
along with two guard towers halfway between the exit and SCP-354.
The staffing of the site has been increased to 500 and the security
funding has been increased by 130%. Additionally, SCP-354 has been
reclassified to Keter.

Addendum 354-A
Following the lack of activity from SCP-354 for nearly a year, Site
354’s budget has been decreased by 40% and the number of personnel
decreased to 200. Further budget cuts are being considered, as the
entity is no longer as big of a threat.

Addendum 354-B
I must formally request additional funding and personnel for Site
354. I do not believe that SCP-354 has been terminated and it may
“awaken” at any moment. The turrets which were installed have
fallen into disrepair and the guard towers have been left alone so
long that their entrances are blocked by debris.
- Director Lawliet

Addendum 354-C
Request denied. If SCP-354 was not terminated then it would have
sent out more instances. Additional funding and personnel are not
needed and would be better suited elsewhere.
- O5-█

Incident log 354-1-B

On March 27th 1964, a magnitude 8.6 earthquake emanated from the

lake and into the surrounding area, causing massive localized damage
on site as well as in the surrounding areas. Immediately after the
quake had subsided all on-site personnel expressed thoughts of
hearing the lake “calling to them” and “needing their soul” high
command tried to reason with them over the radio but to no avail. In
desperation, command sent in Mobile Task Force Eta-10 only to
discover the entire site was empty with the strange unknown runes
carved into the ground, and various surfaces around the site. The only
remaining human on site was a D-class, who was still in an onsite
containment cell rambling incoherently about “the voice that
beckoned him to cleanse himself”. He was found not to be able to be
reasoned with and was shortly thereafter terminated. Mobile Task
Forces on site also discovered a memetic field emanating from the
center of the lake which had not been there prior to the earthquake
and which was expanding at a rate of 3 meters an hour. All personnel
not trained to resist the hazardous effects of it were found to have the
strong urge to wander into the lake where they would subsequently
disappear and presumably die. O-5 council issued an immediate order
to deploy three Scranton reality anchors to the site. This was done but
due to the draw of energy from the anchors, required that 94% of all
the site's power be directed to the anchors and thereby limited any
other essential processes. The anchors stabilized the field and negated
its effects, however this left the site in a critical situation regarding
power consumption. At that time the foundation had no current
means by which to supply the power demands needed for both the
anchors and the site. Neither conventional or Anomalous, and in
desperation O-5 Council made a Veto order ultimately decided to have
a meeting with the Michael Carter and Dark company to see whether
or not they could supply a generator with enough power output to give
power to the entire site. And while this is an extremely unusual and
rare thing for the foundation to do, given the circumstances it was
critical this was done as soon as possible. The deal reached with
MC&D has remained undisclosed and redacted within a level five
clearance document. However the only thing known about the
agreement made with MC&D to acquire the generator was that the site
19 Security had been reduced by 50% for 2 hours the following day. No
site-19 staff recall this event and nothing else is known as to what the
foundation's payment was to them. The following week however, the
generator was constructed by MC&D on site 354. It has since provided
enough power for all three reality anchors with surplus to power the
site. Despite their best efforts however, the anomolus device
discovered with the site that would seem to keep the temporal
anomaly active around the site was unable to be repaired.

Incident-Log 354-2-C

Following Edgar J Hoover's death in 1972, the foundation and UIU

operatives worked in tandem to rescue 25 GRU-P agent defectors and
bring them to the United States to work and unison on the project in
exchange for Soviet satellite information. Ex-GRU-P members who
had defected claim that the Soviets were working on a similar project
with a similar object much like the red lake. All went well on the
project and they worked together in unison with the ex-GRU-P
members until the collapse of the Soviet Union in December of 1991.
The following morning at the site, all the GRU-P members had
disappeared into the lake based on boot prints left by them. Their
reasoning as to why is currently unknown. Nothing else was known
about this incident until June of 2009 when 24 of the 25 former
GRU-P agents crawled out of the lake and opened fire on site
personnel resulting in a three-hour long firefight with the anomalous
entities, resulting in 10 Foundation deaths. After this point of action
the lake began spitting out larger amounts of entities on a regular
basis of anywhere from 7 to 40 entities every week of varying
anomalous species and descriptions.

It was at this point that in an unusual twist, The Foundation reached

out to the GOC with the extended offer of partnership to work with
them and supplying manpower and weaponry to help contain the Red
Lake anomaly as the GOC are known for their ferocity in attempting
to conceal and destroy anomalies.
The decision to ally with the GOC was later solidified after an incident
in 2012 where a massive raid was launched on the site by the Chaos
Insurgency, which by all accounts would have successfully taken over
the site had the GOC not been present. It is currently unknown what
the Chaos Insurgency had hoped to gain from the site had they
captured it.

Addendum:

Containment of the Red Lake at site-354 saw a steady decrease in

entities emerging from the lake over the period of the next 2
decades. That is until November 3rd 2021. 1:15 AM in the
morning command received frantic messages from site 354 saying
they were under heavy attack from entities pouring from the lake
and that several massive tentacles were emerging. Heavy fighting
commences and reinforcements are rushed in en-mass. Which
results in nearly ██% of MTF-Nu-7 being wiped out. Bordering on
the edge of an XK-Class scenario should the site fall, the O-5
approved the use of MTF Alpha-9. To contain the breach in any
ways possible, as well as calling on GOC reinforcements. Near
the 14 hour mark the Site research team announced a critical
breakthrough in a solution to stop the lakes rampant mutation.
By combining the corrosive expellation from SCP-106 with the
green liquid that oozed from the wounds of entities from the
lake, they had created a thick viscous anomalous liquid that
would bond to and corrode the infectious globules that seemed
to form the entities.

The only downside, was that a runner was going to have to

transport 2 gallons of it to a nearby code locked ventilation fill
pipe near the lake to make sure it was distributed into it. Junior
research assistant Malcolm Daws volunteered for the mission
despite its clear risk. And with that he was sent out towards the
lake under covering fire. A monitor was equipped to the
dispensing apparatus Daws carried the liquid in. And reserchers
watched the feed back meter as it's contents emptied. Yet at
62% his pouring stopped. Unable to contact him they sent in GOC
agent Hiram Richard's to commence pouring agin and see what
the hell happened to Daws. After battling his way to the station,
he discovered the pouring container but no Daws. Disregarding
this he recommenced pouring with his left hand while fighting
off mobs with the rifle in his right. He was eventually
overwhelmed and killed by the mobs, but not before finishing
the pouring and setting off a grenade. He was later
posthumously awarded the foundation star. After nearly 21 hours
of near constant battle the horde suddenly ceased, followed by
by tremor, after which the tentacles decomposed into a black
viscous goo which oozed back into the lake. The firefight from
the battle was covered up under the guise of a military exercise.

It was theorized that junior researcher Daws was either

attacked by entities and dragged into the lake, or somehow
slipped by the preliminary cognition test before being deployed
on site and possibly succumbed to the lakes cognition hazard. No
security footage was available at that time.

In the aftermath the site suffered ██% casualties and was

practically leveled. The O-5 has tripled the site's budget and is
currently considering methods by which the lake may ultimately be
destroyed to prevent any further loss of life and to negate any
future threats it may pose to humanity. Plus increased research into
the fluid created by the research team who were later commended
for their actions. The containment process is currently ongoing.

End Log.
