Ans. The meaning of Sajdah is prostration. There are 4 types of prostrations
1. Prostration of recitation/Thilawah
2. Prostration of thankfulness
3. Prostration of forgetfulness
4. Prostration of prayer
2. What is the content of the Surah Sajdah?
Ans. Surah Sajdah was revealed in Makkah. It deals with the foundations of the Islamic faith ( belief
in Allah, the Day of Judgement, Holy Books, Messengers, Resurrection and reward or punishment). It
revolves around resurrection after death, a topic the polytheists debated and used as a pretext for
accusing the Messenger (Peace be upon him) of telling lies.
3. Why is Surah Sajdah (The prostration) given this name?
Ans. It was called Surah Sajdah because there is a description of believers who prostrate
and exalt when they hear the verse of Allah. And it is Sunnah to prostrate whenever we
recite or hear it.
Ayath is:
“"إنما يؤم بآ ياتنا الذي إ ذا ُذكروا بها خ روا سج دا وسبحوا بحمد ربهم وهم ال يستكبرون
ن ن
4. What is the meaning of ?الم
Ans: There are different interpretations of this verse.
a. What Allah intends by these letters only Allah knows
b. Allah used these letters to challenge polytheists to bring a chapter
like this who were arguing that the Quran is not revealed from Allah.
c. To draw the attention of people to the next verses.
5. What is the difference between the names of Allah “Rahman” (entirely merciful) and “Raheem”
(especially merciful)?
Rahman = Entirely merciful
Allah who shows mercy upon everyone without any discrimination between believers and
non-believers in this worldly life.
Raheem = Especially merciful
The Allah who shows mercy upon believers only on the day of judgment.
6. Indicate the difference between the knowledge of Allah and the knowledge of people.

"" ُق ْل يَتَ َو َّف ا ُكم َّم َل ُك ا ْل َم ْو ِت ا ّل َِذي ُولِّك َ ب ُِك ْم ُث َّم ِإ َلى َربّ ُِك ْم ُت ْرجَ ُعون

“Say, The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord, you will
be returned."
