Assessments

Components of the Assessment

The final course mark will be made up as follows:
Group Assignment Presentation 10%
Individual Assignment 10%
2 Tests 30%
Final Exam 50%
• 100%
There will be a third optional test.

4
Exam

• Subminimum: A 40% subminimum will be required for the year mark. This will consist of individual
assignments, tests and group assignments.

• Supplementary examinations: The faculty rules for deferred examinations apply. If a student fails the course
but is granted a supplementary examination by the faculty, such an exam will cover the entire course’s
expected outcomes.

Unit 1 & 2: Introduction to Transport Planning
Transportation Engineering Aspects
Planning: overall planning of routes, financing,
environmental impact evaluation, and value engineering
to compare alternatives;

Traffic engineering: plans for the volumes of traffic to

be handled, the methods to accommodate these flows,
the lighting and signing of highways, and general layout.

Pavement and Roadway engineering: setting of

alignments, planning the cuts and fills to construct the
roadway, designing the base course and pavement, and
selecting the drainage system; and
Bridge engineering: design of highway bridges,
retaining walls, tunnels, and other structures.
