ABSTRACT
The Integrated Design project embodies a multidisciplinary engineering approach aimed at
solving complex real-world problems through the convergence of design, analysis, and
innovation. This project involved the integration of mechanical, electrical, and materials
engineering principles to design, develop, and evaluate a functional prototype that meets
specified performance criteria and user needs. The primary objective was to address a defined
problem by applying systematic design processes, from problem identification and research to
concept generation, simulation, prototyping, and testing.
Throughout the project, emphasis was placed on collaboration, creativity, and iterative
improvement. CAD software was used for detailed modeling and simulation to predict system
performance under real-world conditions. Material selection was made based on cost, durability,
and environmental impact, ensuring the final product was both efficient and sustainable. The
prototype was fabricated using available resources and tested against predefined design
requirements, with modifications made based on test results and feedback.
This integrated design experience not only enhanced our technical and teamwork skills but also
demonstrated the value of a holistic engineering approach in achieving innovative and practical
solutions. The project serves as a strong foundation for future work in advanced product
development and real-world problem solving
INTRODUCTION
In modern mechanical systems, lifting heavy loads safely and efficiently is essential in many
industries, especially automotive and construction. One such widely used device is the bottle
jack - a compact, hydraulic lifting mechanism known for its high lifting capacity and portability.
The bottle jack utilizes hydraulic pressure to lift loads with minimal human effort, making it an
ideal solution for lifting vehicles, machinery, and structural components.
This project aims to design, analyze, and fabricate a functional bottle jack through an integrated
design approach, combining mechanical engineering principles, materials science, and design
methodologies. The purpose is not only to understand the working principles of hydraulic
systems but also to apply theoretical knowledge to a practical engineering solution. The design
process includes identifying user requirements selecting appropriate materials, performing
mechanical and fluid dynamic analyses, and using CAD tools to create accurate 3D models for
simulation and manufacturing
The integrated design of the bottle jack emphasizes safety, efficiency, and ease of use. Key
design considerations include the maximum load capacity, stroke length, cylinder and piston
dimensions, sealing mechanisms, and overall stability. Furthermore, the project explores
potential improvements over traditional designs to enhance performance and user convenience
Through this project, students gain hands-on experience in the complete engineering design
cycle - from concept to prototype - while also developing critical skills in teamwork, problem-
solving, and technical communication. The bottle jack project ultimately demonstrates how
integrated design principles can be used to innovate and improve everyday engineering tools
