BES323A – Engineering Management
Second Term, SY 2024-2025
Name: Leumer Josh S. Terrora Year & Section: ECE 3C
Instructor: Engr. Stephanie Senomio Date: May 5, 2025
A. Discussion: Briefly explain the following questions (3 points each)
1. Differentiate formal and informal communication. How do they differ from each other?
Formal communication follows the official path in an organization, like messages from managers to workers using
memos or manuals. Informal communication happens naturally between coworkers through personal talks and
friendships. The main difference is that formal communication is planned and organized, while informal communication
is casual and not controlled by the company.
2. Why selecting of appropriate channel and mode of communication is important?
Choosing the right way to send a message helps make sure it is clear and reaches the right person. If the wrong channel
is used, the message might be misunderstood or delayed. Using the proper mode also saves time and avoids wasting
resources.
3. What do you think is the most common barrier that can be encountered within the organization? Discuss.
A common barrier in communication is personal barriers, like emotions, different beliefs, or poor listening. These
problems can cause confusion and make it hard for people to understand each other. When people don’t listen well or
have different experiences, the message may not be received the right way.
4. How can emotion affect the success of the communication?
Emotions can change how a person understands or reacts to a message. If someone is angry, sad, or stressed, they might
not listen carefully or take the message the wrong way. This can lead to poor teamwork or misunderstandings in the
workplace.
5. What is the role of communication in the organization?
Communication helps people in a company share information, solve problems, and work together. It is used to give
instructions, motivate workers, and control how things are done. Good communication makes the organization run
smoothly and keeps everyone informed.
