SENTENCE COMPLETION TEST
INTRODUCTION:
Personality is something that enables a person to stand out as distinct
from others. It is the total quality of an individual’s behavior. It
includes his physical, mental, emotional and temperamental make-up
and how it shows itself in behavior. Personality is a dynamic thinking
and it grows in a social set-up. It is different in each person.
A trait is some particular quality of behavior which characterizes the
individual in a wide range of his activities, and which is fairly consistent
over a period of time. Some of the important traits are Introversion-
extraversion, Neuroticism-stability and psychoticism.
The factors influencing personality includes:
(i) The physiological factors – The physique of the individual, his
size, strength, looks and constitution. It also includes the
physical deficiencies and the nature of glandular functioning.
(ii) The environmental or social factors – An individual’s
personality is influenced more by the reactions of other
people to him and by the reactions to other people and then
by any other factor in the environment.
(iii) Mental or psychological factors include our motives, acquired
interests, our attitudes, our will and character, our intellectual
capacities.
Personality can be assessed by means of interview, observation of
behaviour, rating scales, questionnaire and case history method.
AIM:
To measure the personality traits of socialization, self confidence,
ambitious using Sentence Completion Test.
METHOD:
a) PARTICIPANT:
The name of the subject is ‘KC’, female aged 28 years, employed
at ______.
b) EXPERIMENTER:
The name of experimental is ‘XX’, male student undergoing
undergraduate studies in Psychology.

c) MATERIALS:
Sentence Completion Test by L.N. Dubey & Archana Dubey
d) ADMINISTRATION:
In the Sentence Completion Test, there are a total of 50 items
measuring the traits of sociability, self-confidence and Ambitious.
The subject is seated comfortably and after establishing rapport
with the subject the purpose of this psychological test is explained.
The subject is instructed as follows:
“This is a simple sentence completion test and there are some
incomplete sentences given. You have to read each item carefully
and complete the incomplete sentence as quickly as possible with
the first thought that comes in your mind. You have to write the
sentence that carry full meaning. There is no time limit in this test
but complete the test as quickly as you can. No sentence is to be
left incomplete”.
Scoring is done as per manual. For positive items two
marks are assigned; Negative item, one mark and zero mark
for Neutral item.
RESULTS:
Table I shows raw score and interpretation for the personality traits
– Self confidence, Sociability and Ambitious.
Table II shows the score and interpretation of the group.
DISCUSSION:
The subject scored 25, 26 and 24 for traits of Self confidence,
Sociability and Ambitious respectively. This shows that the subject
is High in Sociability, very high in Self-Confidence and Average in
Amibitious.
The overall score indicates High traits in her.
When compared to the scores of the subject with that of the group:
Compare with Male subjects, female subjects – ……..Low High etc
etc.
CONCLUSION:
The subject is very high in Self-confidence but she is high in
Sociability and Average in Ambitious.
