Objective
This assignment invites you to co-create a speculative story using AI Dungeon, an AI-powered text-based
storytelling platform. Through this creative exercise, you will explore the collaborative potential of
artificial intelligence in storytelling, analyze how AI influences narrative development, and reflect on the
implications of AI in creative fields. You will integrate research to ground your reflections in real-world
discussions about AI and creativity.
Instructions
Part 1: Story transcript
Step 1: Access AI Dungeon
1. Go to AI Dungeon.
2. Create a free account if you don’t already have one.
3. Familiarize yourself with the platform and its features by exploring a few examples.
Step 2: Set Up Your Story
1. Choose a Theme: Select one of the following themes based on course discussions:
o Robot Consciousness (e.g., a robot develops emotions in a post-apocalyptic world).
o AI and Emotional Connection (e.g., AI assistants shape human relationships).
o The Future of Work (e.g., AI fully replaces human labor).
o AI in Ethics or Justice (e.g., AI-driven courts decide human fates).
2. Create a Custom Adventure: Start a new story in AI Dungeon using the “Custom” option. Write a
1-3 sentence prompt to set the scene (e.g., “In 2050, an AI robot becomes the first to stand trial
for a crime it committed.”).
Step 3: Co-Create Your Story
1. Interact with the AI: Engage with AI Dungeon by responding to the AI’s outputs. Shape the
narrative through your decisions and guide the story’s direction.
2. Length Requirement: Continue your story for at least 20 turns (entries). Aim for a coherent and
engaging narrative.
3. Highlight Key Moments: Identify 3-5 moments where the AI surprised you, took the story in an
unexpected direction, or revealed its creative limitations.
Part 2: Reflection with research
Write a 500-word reflection that combines personal analysis and research. Address the following
questions:
Interaction with AI: How did the AI influence the story’s direction? Did you feel like a
collaborator or an observer?
Creativity and Limitations: What surprised you about the AI’s responses? Were there moments
of creativity or limitations?
Connections to Research:
o Reference 2-3 sources (e.g., course materials, academic articles, credible media) to
discuss how your experience aligns with or challenges real-world discussions about AI
creativity and storytelling.
Course Themes: How does your story connect to broader course themes, such as those explored
in R.U.R., Her, or “Be Right Back”?
