Information Technology (IT) for first-year students with diverse backgrounds.
Topic 1: Introduction to Information Technology
- Definition, scope, and importance of IT
- History and evolution of IT
- Role of IT in modern society
Topic 2: Computer Hardware and Software
- Components of a computer system (CPU, memory, storage, I/O devices)
- Types of software and their applications (system software, application software, open-source vs.
proprietary)
Topic 3: Operating Systems
- Functions and types of operating systems
- Overview of popular operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Topic 4: Networking and the Internet
- Basics of data communication and computer networks
- Network types (LAN, WAN, protocols)
- Network topologies
Topic 5: Data Representation and Storage
- Number systems and data encoding (Binary, hexadecimal, and ASCII systems)
- Data storage and file management
Topic 6: Cybersecurity Basics
- Common cyber threats and vulnerabilities (malware, phishing, hacking, etc)
- Introduction to security measures (firewalls, encryption, authentication)

Assessment Methods
