(a) Define Blackdamp, Whitedamp, Stinkdamp and Afterdamp.

(b) Enlist any four principles by which firedamp is detected.

(c) Define Geothermic gradient.

(d) State the reason for providing five rods in flame safety lamp.

(e) State the name of instrument which detects the gases digitally and also names
of gases.

(f) Define Quantity Surveying.

(g) Enlist any four ventilation appliances.

(a) Explain standards of Ventilation. Also define Ventilation District.

(b) Describe the procedure to calculate cooling power of air.

(c) Define Natural Ventilating Pressure and elaborate the causes of NVP.

3. Attempt any TWO of the following : 12

(a) Compare Axial flow fan with centrifugal fan.

(b) Define Motive Column. Mean air temperature in a D.C. shaft having 450 m depth
is 29 C and in the U.C. shaft is 40 C. Calculate the Motive Column and the
NVP assuming average barometric pressure in D.C. shaft to be 750 mm of Hg.

(c) Explain the following terms : (any four)

(i) Theoretical Depression

(ii) Effective Depression

(iii) Monometric Efficiency

(iv) H.P. of Ventilation

(v) Mechanical Efficiency

4. Attempt any TWO of the following : 12

(a) Compare :

(i) Ascensional ventilation with Descensional ventilation

(ii) Homotropal ventilation with Antitropal ventilation.

(b) Define Splitting of air and explain advantages and disadvantages of splitting
with a neat sketch.

(c) Explain precautions to be taken before installation of Booster fan. What are
the dangers associated with Booster fan ?

5. Attempt any TWO of the following : 12

(a) Compare Auxillary fan with Booster fan

(b) Explain the importance of Survey Interval and Location of Survey Stations in
a Ventilation Survey.

(c) A mine is ventilated by a fan producing 7000 m3/min at 70 mm w.g. The fan
runs at 320 rpm and absorbs 180 B.H.P. To increase the volume of air flowing
through the mine, the fan is speeded upto 420 r.p.m. Calculate :

(i) Volume of air at new fan speed.

(ii) New water gauge, B.H.P. and efficiency of the fan.

6. Attempt any THREE of the following : 12

(a) Draw conventions for signs on ventilation plan (any eight).

(b) Explain the procedure to carry out percentage test using flame safety lamp.

(c) Illustrate any two ventilation appliances with a neat sketch.

(d) Describe the working of velometer in respect of calculating the air velocity.

(e) Enumerate the limitations of Natural Ventilation.
