From a difficult childhood to a career full of medals.

Nothing predisposed Simone Biles to be among the women to break records in their field.
Indeed, Simone Arianne Biles is an American athlete in artistic gymnastics. She was born on
March 14, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. She lived until the age of three with a drug addict
mother who could not take care of her and her brothers. With her younger sister, they were
adopted by their grandparents on November 7, 2003.

This is how Simone started gymnastics at the age of six. Since 2011, she has been part of the
American national team. Simone's fine track record began in 2012 when she became the
Junior National Champion on vault and won the bronze medal in the all-around
competition.

She particularly shone at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Indeed, she won the gold medal in the
team all-around competition, the individual all-around competition, the vault and the sol.
Simone is the first black woman to hold ten world champion titles, but also the only woman
to win the artistic all-around competition three times in a row in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Then,
she is the first African-American to win this distinction. In addition, in three years, she won
fourteen world medals while the previous American record was 10 medals in seven years.
This woman has accomplished feats despite starting life in an unfavorable family
environment.

In 2016, the 19-year-old American gymnast was named
Sportswoman of the Year by the Associated Press after her five
Olympic medals, becoming the fifth gymnast to receive this award.
In 2018, returning from her sabbatical year, she received her
second title of L'Équipe world champion of champions.
In 2021, Biles was named Time magazine's Athlete of the Year,
notably for her work in highlighting mental health, encouraging
people to protect themselves and seek help when needed.
In July 2022, Simone Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of
Freedom by President Joe Biden, becoming the youngest recipient
of America's highest civilian honor.
In 2024, Biles won the Laureus World Sports Awards for Comeback
of the Year after winning four gold medals at the World
Championships in Antwerp.

Why i admire this person
Simone Biles is an athlete I deeply admire for several reasons. First
and foremost, her incredible talent in gymnastics is truly inspiring.
With her achievements on the international stage, she has
redefined the limits of what was once thought possible in this
sport. Her ability to execute highly difficult routines with such grace
and precision is impressive. But beyond her exceptional
performances, what fascinates me is her resilience. She has
overcome numerous personal and professional challenges, all
 while maintaining a rare humility.
Simone also demonstrated extraordinary courage by
openly addressing the struggles related to her mental
health. In 2021, she made the difficult decision to
withdraw from certain Olympic competitions, a choice
that was necessary for her well-being. This decision only
strengthened her image as a strong individual, not only
physically but also mentally. She broke the taboos
surrounding athletes' mental health, becoming a source
of inspiration for millions of people who struggle in
silence.
Outside of her sports career, Simone Biles is also a model
of determination and commitment. She doesn't hesitate
to use her fame to advocate for important causes, such as
the fight against sexual abuse, having been a victim of this
terrible issue herself. Finally, Simone embodies
perseverance. Despite the obstacles, she has always
managed to rise and continue to excel. She teaches us
that one can be vulnerable while still being incredibly
strong, and that, I believe, is one of the reasons I admire
her so much.
