Report text is a text that presents information
about something in general based on research.

The main purpose of report text is to inform
about an object based on facts, as a result of
observation or analysis.

General classification is a part of the report text
structure that contains general groupings of the
objects being discussed. This part usually
contains basic information about the object.
For example, if the report text discusses animals,
the general grouping can include their scientific
name, the type of food they eat, and the most
well-known thing or aspect of the object.
• Description
Description is a part of the report text structure
that contains a description of the object being
discussed in more detail. For example, its
physical and function, habitat, and lifespan.
Language Rules of Report Text
1. Simple present tense
Report text will use Simple Present Tense, or
situations that are happening in the present.
Characteristically, there are words such as often,
usually, always, today, and so on.
2. General Nouns
Report text will explain general information
based on facts. Therefore, the nouns used are
also general. For example, lion, cat, dog, and so
on.
3. Linking Verb
Linking verbs are verbs that function to connect
other words. For example, is, are, am, and so on.
4. Technical Terms
In report texts, terms related to the topic being
discussed are often used. For example, when
you make a report text about animals, the text
must contain the term men.

Example 1: Flooding in Jakarta
Title: Annual Flooding in Jakarta
Report:
Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, often
experiences annual flooding, especially during
the rainy season from November to March. The
main causes are poor drainage systems, heavy
rainfall, and river overflows. In urban areas,
garbage blocking waterways also worsens the
situation. Flooding disrupts transportation,
damages property, and displaces many
residents every year.
Example 2: Flash Flood in India
Title: Flash Flood in Uttarakhand
Report:
In February 2021, a sudden flash flood occurred
in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It
was triggered by a glacier burst in the
Himalayas. The flood destroyed roads, bridges,
and a hydroelectric project. Many people went
missing, and rescue operations were
immediately launched. This disaster raised
concerns about climate change and glacier
melting.

Example 1: Car Accident on the Highway
Title: Highway Collision Near Jakarta
Report:
On April 15, 2025, a serious car accident
occurred on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road. A
truck lost control and hit three cars in front of it.
The accident caused traffic jams for several
hours and injured at least five people. Police
suspected the driver was sleepy and speeding.
The victims were taken to the nearest hospital.
Example 2: Train Accident in India
Title: Train Derailment in Odisha
Report:
In June 2023, a tragic train derailment
happened in Odisha, India. Several coaches of
the train went off the tracks, resulting in
hundreds of deaths and injuries. Initial reports
indicated a signal error may have caused the
crash. The accident shocked the country and led
to demands for improved railway safety
measures.

Example 1: The Elephant
The elephant is the largest land animal. It has a
long trunk, large ears, and thick legs. Elephants
are herbivores and live in groups. They are found
mostly in Africa and Asia. Elephants are known
for their intelligence and strong memory.
Example 2: The Penguin
Penguins are flightless birds that live in cold
regions like Antarctica. They have black and
white feathers and are excellent swimmers.
Penguins eat fish and other sea creatures. They
usually live in large colonies and take care of
their young together.
Example 3: The Tiger
The tiger is a wild cat species known for its
strength and stripes. It is a carnivore and lives in
forests, especially in Asia. Tigers are solitary
animals and hunt alone. Sadly, tigers are
endangered due to habitat loss and poaching.
