The Board is very appreciative of our community for their support in starting another school year. Please remember to
drive the speed limit and be patient in the school zones for the safety of all.
Homecoming week is September 30 through October 5. It will be an exciting week as many of our alumni will return
to town. Come out and observe the best parade around. The start time for the parade will be approximately 2:30 pm on
October 4.

SUPERINTENDENT'S LETTER Page 2

HELLO ELK MOUND AREA CITIZENS And THANK YOU!

With the close of September, we have one full month of the 2024-2025 school year behind us. Thank you for all
your support in making the start of this school year a success.
Come Connect with us via Social Media
Our district has a Facebook page highlighting different activites and events our students, staff or community
members are involved in. We also utilize this page for messages at times. Our page can be found on Facebook
@[Link]. Come join the fun and see what great things are occurring in our district.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Each of our schools has established different Parent-Teacher and Goal Setting Conference schedules. This
works best since the high school is on a block schedule, the middle school is on a traditional schedule and the
elementary school is on a trimester schedule. Please watch the calendar and take advantage of this opportunity
to discuss with us your child’s educational progress. Please be watching for information from each building
regarding this topic.
Lunch Accounts
If your child is eating school meals, please remember to place funds in their lunch account. In the event your
child’s account is low, you may receive an automated email reminding you. You may also log into your Infinite
Campus account to check the balance in your child’s account.
Fall Break
October 11 and 14 will be fall break. There will be no school for students. Hopefully the weather will
cooperate, and you can enjoy some time outside.
Bus Safety Week – October 21 – 25
Everyday our big yellow buses transport hundreds of our youth to and from school. We need to make sure
everyone understands the rules and the risks and work toward reducing potential problems. Parents are urged
to be sure to review appropriate bus behavior with their children. Please remember that if you have concerns to
share them with your bus driver. Know your bus driver’s home phone number so you can contact her or him if
need be. Our transportation supervisor is Mr. Tom Newman. If there is some emergency related to transporta-
tion, and you can’t reach your regular driver, please call Mr. Newman at 715-577-1733. Don’t forget to thank
our bus drivers for their effort to transport our children safely. If you have any interest in joining the transporta-
tion team, please give Tom a call.
The Importance of School Attendance
School attendance is a critical factor in school success. We appreciate all the efforts that parents take to encour-
age positive attendance patterns for their children. Students who are chronically tardy or absent from school
miss far more than can be “made up” on assignments sent home.
Have a great October!
Sincerely,
Eric T. Wright
Superintendent of School

HOME OF THE MOUNDERS
Parents and Students,
It’s hard to believe we are mid-way through the first quarter. Parent-Teacher Conferences occur on the night of October 10. If
you are not able to attend conferences, parents should be aware that they have 24 hour access to their child’s grades. If you do
not know about the Infinite Campus Portal, or need to get your user identification, please call the high school office at (715)
879-5521.
On the night of Parent-Teacher Conferences, Mr. Goodrich will be available to answer questions regarding the Dual credit
programs that are offered either at the high school or college (technical and university) and are designed so that students
completing the course can receive both high school and college credit. If you miss the opportunity to connect with Mr.
Goodrich, please feel free to contact him with questions at (715) 879-5521.
Homecoming activities are set to occur on the Week of September 30 through October 5. Students and staff are looking forward
to the many activities associated with this event. The Homecoming assembly will take place on Friday, October 4 at 1:00 pm.
The parade will follow the conclusion of the assembly around 2:30pm. The Mounders host the Mondovi Buffaloes at 7:00 pm
that evening. The homecoming dance will take place at the high school on October 5 and will run from 8:00pm to 11:00 pm. I
would like to thank the E-Club, the Cheerleaders, Mr. Lew, Ms. Allen, Mr. Murphy and Ms. Dienger for their help in planning
and participating in the events.
The state of Wisconsin is once again requiring high school students to test at the freshmen, sophomore and junior levels. The
freshmen and sophomores will take the ACTSecure, and sophomores will also take the FORWARD exam. This year, the junior
class will take the ACT. The ACT will be given in March while the freshmen and sophomores will test in April. I am making
mention of testing now, as we encourage our junior level students who plan on going to college to take the ACT multiple times.
The ACT is given nearly every month of the calendar year, but there is a deadline date to register for each exam. Visit [Link]
or contact Mr. Goodrich for more information.
Lifetouch was in the auditorium taking student pictures on September 18. Students should have brought home information on
pricing and sizes. Retakes will be held on October 23.
The annual Athletic Booster Club Craft Sale will take place on Saturday, October 19 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please come
and support the efforts of the Booster Club.
Parents should note that if your child is sick you must call the school by 9:00am. By making this call, you assure the school that
your child is safe, and that we all know of their whereabouts. If we do not receive a call by the designated time, you risk having
your child marked unexcused. Also, if your child is exhibiting signs of illness, such as a cough and fever, please keep them
home from school, for their own sake and the sake of others.
The high school offers many different clubs and organizations. Larger groups like the athletic and music boosters are contin-
ually looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and other activities. Other clubs, organizations and teams are, from time
to time, looking for volunteers. If you have an interest in volunteering for a specific activity, I encourage you to contact the
advisor or coach and see if they are in need of assistance.

Enjoy the fall colors and crisp nights. It’s definitely football weather. Congratulations to the band on their successful marching
season. I have received many compliments on their great marching performances. Thank you to our cheer squad for “firing up”
the crowd at football games. Also, good luck to our volleyball, cross country and football teams as they gear up for the postsea-
son. Finally, a reminder to parents that students will not have school on Friday, October 11 (Staff Inservice Day) and Monday,
October 14 (Fall Break).
Sincerely,
Paul Kling, Principal

WHERE KIDS COME FIRST
Dear Parents and Guardians,
September was a great month at the middle school. It was wonderful to have our students back at school, the noises
of fun and learning filling the hallways, and watching students learn and grow with their teachers and friends.
Thank you to all of our Mounder families for your help getting the 24-25 school year off to a great start. I have been
very impressed with how well everyone - teachers, students, and parents – is working together to give our students a
great experience.
If you aren’t already signed up, the middle school is providing information to parents through Infinite Campus text
messages to parents (similar to Remind), informing them of upcoming events and happenings at the middle school.
In order to receive a weekly message on your cell phone, you’ll need to sign up on Infinite Campus. Please follow
these steps:
1. Go to the district website ([Link])
2. Find the Parents tab then under the tab click Campus Portal.
3. Next sign-in to your parent account. (Note: each parent has one account)
4. Once you are signed in, go to the user icon on the top right.
5. Click “Settings”
6. Next click on “Contact Preferences”
7. Under “Contact Preferences,” you will see your cell number listed. If you would like to receive text
messages from the district, please check all of the boxes in the row labeled Text (SMS). Then click (Save).
8. Note: You can also view a short “How To” video about setting your contact preferences here
([Link]
9. Note: If you do not have a cell phone number listed, please update your contact information under
the Family Members button. If you do not have an Infinite Campus parent account, see above to set it up.
In addition to this communication, each grade level is sending out weekly Remind messages to update
families with classroom happenings and other events to be aware of on a weekly basis. If you are not
signed up to receive these messages, please contact your student’s homeroom teacher for more
information.
Mr. Linzmeier, [Link], and Mr. Proft coach the football teams. The teams have a couple games remaining. The
volleyball teams are coached by Ms. Powell and Mr. Wesely. The teams also have a few remaining matches. The
cross country team is coached by Mr. Fredrickson. Cross country runners have two remaining meets.
The Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) strives to provide middle-school students with drug prevention program-
ming and opportunities to learn new skills while making a positive impact in their community. Last year YEP met
weekly with middle-school students in our building. Students will be able to sign-up for this opportunity. The last
few years, we have had 30-50 students that have participated in these events. This runs each Monday night after
school until approximately 4:45 pm. Students can get more information in the office.
Just a friendly reminder that 7th and 8th graders start every other day at the high school. If you’re dropping your
student off in the morning and they have classes at the high school, please feel free to drop him/her off at the high
school.
National School Bus Safety Week is October 21-25 and serves as a reminder to give thanks to those individuals
who go out of their way to assure our students arrive to and from school safely. Thank you to all of our district bus
drivers!
MS PRINCIPAL'S LETTER - CONTINUED Page 5

Our student council planned a variety of “spirit week” theme days in conjunction with homecoming. Ms. Nelson is
our student council advisor. In the past, the student council has organized activity nights, provided volunteers for
local charities, visited local nursing homes, raised money for Christmas gifts for needy families, raised money for
technology needs at the middle school, contributed to middle school improvement projects, and worked on many
other worthy activities. Thank you past and present student council members and to our advisors for all of your great
contributions to the middle school! Our first middle school activity night will be in late October. More information
will be coming home soon.
There is one important safety concern that we need your help with at the end of the day. When picking up your
student, parents should not drive to the north parking lot by the gym or wait on Lincoln Street where our buses exit
the middle school to pick up their student(s). I understand this may save a little time, but there are safety concerns
with using this location and it should not be used. We appreciate your understanding for the safety of all of our
students.
Here are a few important dates to add to your family calendar:
October 4 Homecoming
October 11-14 – Fall break for students
October 21 - Middle school boys’ basketball begins
November 1 – End of 1st Quarter
Enjoy the month of October!
Sincerely,
Mr. Hahn
Middle School Principal
ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL'S LETTER Page 6
A POSITIVE PLACE FOR KIDS
Dear Parents and Community Members,

We are off to a great start at Mound View. The weather has been cooperating, and September has been filled
with many exciting events at Mound View. The VFW participated in a flag raising ceremony to get our year
off to a good start. The third grade visited the Ice Age Trail Center in New Auburn, and the fourth grade visited
Crystal Cave in Spring Valley. In addition, the second grade visited Paul Bunyan Logging Camp in Eau Claire,
and the four-year-old kindergarten visited Niblett’s Apple Shed in Chippewa Falls. There are other various field
trips scheduled in October as the great fall weather invites us to get outside. The students and staff are looking
forward to attending the Homecoming parade the first Friday in October. We are thankful to be able to continue
with these traditional events which highlight the first months of school.

We continue to value the connections formed with parents. All indications are that the Orientation Day was a
success. Our next scheduled event to foster these important connections is our goal setting conferences. The
first conference night is scheduled for October 3, and the second night of conferences is scheduled for October
10. Parents will have the option to attend in person or virtually. We are hoping for a 100% attendance rate at
the conferences, so please contact the school if you are unaware of your assigned time. We look forward to a
continued strong connection between home and school.

The PTO held the first meeting of the year last month. The following are serving as the leadership team:
Bethany Hubbard is president; Aimee Charbonneau is the vice-president, and Lori Woodman is the secretary.
They are starting to plan events and sponsored a PTO Night at the Varsity Football game on September 20.
They are also planning on hosting inflatables during the day for Homecoming. The PTO meets on the first or
second Monday of each month at 6 pm, and I encourage you to attend a meeting and get involved in this
valuable organization!

Mound View will be partnering with Culver’s on Folsom Street the third Tuesday of each month again this year.
Culver’s will donate 10% of all sales from 4-7pm on those nights. There will be guest servers from Mound
View helping out delivering meals. Come on out, enjoy a great meal, and support Mound View on the third
Tuesday of each month!

The teachers have been busy getting to know their students. They have been testing the students to determine
their individual reading levels to best guide instruction. They do this through the FastBridge Assessment
system and are transitioning to AimswebPlus. AimswebPlus is now the required assessment across the state as
part of the new reading instruction law. These assessments check for the reading and math skills of our students
as well as screening for social-emotional concerns. Teachers analyze this data to help individualize instruction
and provide interventions for those students in need. Our building goals are to help each student be above the
low-risk benchmark in math and reading at the end of the year.

There will be no school on October 11 and 14 so students can have a short break. Staff will be having an
inservice day on October 11 to focus on training and planning. We are planning on having our traditional
Halloween parade and party on October 31. Please watch for more information to come home with the students
related to the Halloween activities.

Enjoy the great weather and all of the activities that autumn offers!

Sincerely,
Eric Hanson
Principal

The meal bags provide a main dish, vegetable, fruit, cereal & snacks

The Mounder Meals program began in October 2013. The first school
year we picked up meal bags that were prepacked and paid for by Step-

developed our own program with local fundraising, ordering &

a volunteer crew for packing and delivery to the schools.
We need your community support! Funds are low in our dedicated
account at Shepherd of the Hill Church. We packed 95 bags weekly last
