FARM BUSINESS PLAN
FARM NAME : Tikondane Farm
LOCATION : Mkhwidzi, Lilongwe, Malawi.
FARM SIZE : 7 acres
Welcome to Tikondane Farm, a sustainable farm dedicated to producing healthy food while
protecting the environment. Our mission is to create a thriving agricultural system that
benefits both people and the planet. By combining crops and natural resources, we aim to
grow a diverse range of nutritious foods, support local communities and promote ecological
balance.

Mitigation measures towards the environment
The following principles of conservation agriculture are to be applied on our farm in order to
improve and conserve the environment. These includes; crop rotation, no tillage, mixed
cropping, mulching, water conservation.
Crop rotation is the practice of growing a serious of different crops on the same land in a
specific sequence. The main aim of crop rotation is to improve soil fertility, increase crop
yield, reduced pest and diseases and many more.

Intercropping
Is the cropping system where two or more crops are grown simultaneous on the same piece of
land. Maize and beans, maize help of support beans where beans crumb on it while beans
help nitrogen fixation that are used for maize growth
No tillage
A farming practice where crops are grown without disturbing the soil through tillage,
preserving soil healthy and structure. It is less than 30% disturbing the soil and also help to
reduce labor, maintaining moisture, improve soil healthy and is save money and time.
Water conversation
Rain water harvesting, water is collected and stored in tanks or dam for irrigation
Runoff harvesting
Water that are from the ground can be collected using drain to dam where will be stored
Biodiversity enhancement measures
Crop diversification that is planting multiple crops including cover crops to enhance proper
soil structure. This can be achieved by reducing tillage to minimize erosion
Economic analysis; includes budget of input cost of available resources. In our case, the
resources include seeds, drip pipe, irrigation pumps and in minimal hoes.
Monitoring and evaluation
Production level
Monitor the following; soil healthy, organic matter, water holding capacities, planting growth
and plant yield.
