10 Physics Sound Chapter-4

The document discusses the relationship between pitch, frequency, wavelength, wave velocity, and amplitude of sound. It explains how sound waves reflect off surfaces, creating echoes, and outlines various properties of sound waves, including their ability to reflect, refract, and diffract. Additionally, it addresses the differences between loudness and intensity, factors affecting loudness, and the units used to measure sound intensity and loudness.

### Q13. If the pitch of sound is increased, what are the changes in the following?

(a) *The frequency:* Increases.

(b) *The wavelength:* Decreases (since \( \lambda = \frac{v}{f} \), where \( v \) is constant).

(c) *The wave velocity:* Unaffected (depends on medium properties like temperature, pressure, humidity, and
density).

(d) *The amplitude of the wave:* Unchanged (pitch is independent of amplitude).

### Q14. If we clap or speak in front of a building while standing at a particular distance, we rehear our sound after
some time. Can you explain how this happens?

When sound waves are produced near a tall building or mountain, they reflect off the surface and return to the listener
after a short delay. This reflected sound is called an *echo, which is a result of the **reflection of sound waves*. The
time delay depends on the distance between the source and the reflecting surface.
