Multi-Factor Authentication in Salesforce

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security method requiring users to provide two or more forms of verification for account access. To enable MFA in Salesforce, administrators must ensure users have access to an authenticator app and configure session settings accordingly. The process involves creating a permission set, enabling MFA, and assigning it to the desired user for enhanced security.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication
Different Ways It is kind of a security check
just to make sure that you
are the valid user.

In simple terms...
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security method
that requires users to provide two or more different
types of verification before accessing an account or
system.
What is 2 Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security
measure that requires users to provide two
different types of verification before accessing an
account or system.
This typically involves something the user knows
(like a password) and something the user has (like a
smartphone or security token).

It adds an extra layer of security beyond just a

password, making it more difficult for unauthorized
users to access accounts or systems.
Some Prerequisites before
enabling Two-Factor
Authentication in Salesforce...
Administrator Access: Ensure that you have
administrator access to your Salesforce
organization to enable and configure Two-Factor
Authentication.
Authenticator Mobile App: Before enabling Two
Factor Authentication, ensure that users have
access to an authenticator application, such as
Google Authenticator or Salesforce Authenticator,
on their mobile devices. If not, provide instructions
for downloading and setting up the application.

Session Setting: Ensure that the Session Security

Levels section in the session settings has 'Multi-
Factor Authentication' selected in the high
assurance list.
Steps to enable Multi-Factor or
Two-Factor Authentication for
any user?
Search for permission sets in setup.
Create a permission set with any name.

Click on the system permission in the system

section.
Click on the edit button and then search for ‘Multi-
factor authentication for user interface logins’ and
enable it.

Assign the permission set to the user you wish to

enable MFA for.
Congratulations you are in, the next time that user
logs in to your Salesforce org he has to do the Two-
Factor Authentication first.
