Trey Beckwith Computer Ethics
Ethics Definition
Webster’s Dictionary defines ethic as the discipline dealing with what is good and bad with moral
duty and obligation. For a computer it is a sort of code of conduct to make you are being safe and
responsible while user a computer. If you follow these rules, then you will have a nice and safe internet
experience.
Code of Ethics
Some basic ethics for using a computer is to respect the privacy of others, respect copyright law
and licenses, and too be responsible and sensible when handling equipment for the computer. Not
following those rules could lead to serious repercussions in a variety of difference ways.
Copyright
One of the most important rules or ethics to follow is the copyright law. If you copy and paste
someone else’s work that is copyrighted and don’t give credit to the author and use it as your own, you
will be breaking the copyright law. If you break this law and you are caught doing it you could be kicked
out of your college or school or even worse being fined a hefty amount of money or serving jail time.
Plagiarism
When you break the copyright law you are also committing the act of Plagiarism. An act of
plagiarism is copying an author’s work without their permission and using it as your own or breaking the
copyright law, plagiarism is the word for breaking the copyright law. Plagiarism is also what can land you in
jail or make you pay a big fine.
Computer Privacy Issues
One thing to be cautious about when on the internet is sharing passwords and or data. It is very
important you don’t share your passwords with anyone because you never know who may be trying to
steal your data or personal information. Someone could easily find out so much about where you live,
where you work or go to school, or how much money you have if you were to do that.
Computer Crimes
Another thing to be cautious about when searching around the internet are scammers. Scammers
are people on the internet who usually get you to buy something or download software that will give the
scammer access to all of your data and many other private things or items. It’s very important to be
cautious about this kind of stuff because at least 800,000 people fall victim to cyberattacks and virus every
year and about 2,200 per day.
Software Piracy
Software piracy is the illegal distribution of buying and selling different software. This method of
disturbing or obtaining software can get you in big trouble and will most likely kick you out of any school
or university that finds out of your crime.
Encryption
Encryption is a form of privacy software that converts information into secret code that makes it
harder for hackers to get a hold of your information. There are formulas that encode and decode the
information call ciphers and it makes hackers guess the cipher’s output for them to get your information.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
A.I or Artificial Intelligence is a robot that is coded to perform an action based on a response they
receive from usually a human action or another computer action. A.I. is usually made up of what if codes
which makes the A.I. perform an action based on the response it gets. For Example, if a human were to say
left a robot with that what if code would turn to the left and if a human said right the robot would turn
right do to the what if code.
