Voltage Multipliers PDF

The document describes voltage multipliers, specifically half-wave, full-wave, voltage doublers, triplers, and quadruplers, which utilize diodes and capacitors to increase AC signal voltage without high voltage transformers. It outlines the operation of these circuits, detailing how they charge capacitors during positive and negative half-cycles to achieve higher output voltages. Applications include CRT displays, X-ray machines, and high-voltage power supplies, with specific uses for each type of multiplier based on voltage requirements.

The positive half-cycle involves forward-biased Diode 1, allowing current to flow and
charging Capacitor 1 to Voltage peak, while reverse-biased Diode 2 blocks current
flow. The negative half-cycle involves reverse-biased Diode 1 blocking current flow
and forward-biased Diode 2 charging Capacitor 2, resulting in a voltage on Capacitor
2 of approximately 2Vp. If a load is connected, C2 will discharge slightly and recharge
in subsequent cycles.
