Elevator maintainers are adapting to technological trends to enhance service quality and reduce maintenance costs, utilizing connectivity for advanced control and predictive maintenance. The integration of various devices into the IoT ecosystem is crucial, but the existence of multiple independent platforms complicates data cross-referencing. An ideal IoT platform would be compatible with most devices, enable upgrades for older installations, and incorporate machine learning capabilities.

The experience of the elevator maintainer.

The elevator maintainer, on the one hand, follows the same technological trends as end users,
even though his needs are greater and they are aimed at improving the quality of the service and
optimizing maintenance costs.

In addition to having to meet the needs of the end user, the elevator maintainer will use the
elevator connectivity for a more advanced control of the facilities, so in addition to remote
control and prior failure warning, the machine learning will open the doors to predictive
maintenance.

The remote control allows monitoring and parameterizing the operational status of the elevator
elements that have a communication port, usually, the remote control is made only through the
control panel because the current gateways have a single communication port and do not allow
amplification.

In Interlift 2017 we have been able to verify that in addition to the switchboards, many other
devices in the elevator begin to integrate communication ports that will allow them to be part of
that IOT universe, frequency variators, load handler devices, energy generators, multimedia
screens, operators of doors, accelerometers, motors and sensors of all kinds.

Each manufacturer presents a different IOT platform for their 'smart' device, some of them with a
defined business model and others only with the intention of improving their services and
features.

When there are several independent platforms, the opportunity to cross data with other elements,
which together would provide much more information and value than the data can provide by
itself, is lost.

The elevator maintainer has publicly expressed his rejection of having to increase costs by
doubling the mobile connectivity or installing more routers, as well as having to use several
platforms, one for the operator of doors, another for the control panel ...
The ideal scenario for an elevator maintainer is an IOT platform that is compatible with most
'smart' devices and that has the possibility of converting older installations into 'smart ones' that
can cross data from various devices and that also have Machine Learning implementation
capabilities.
